I, and other Democrats from around the country, felt that the people of Ohio-11, should be represented by an ACTUAL DEMOCRAT.
And, not someone who had spent all her time since 2015, disrespecting the Democratic Party.
That they deserved better than someone who wouldn’t say that they proudly voted for our Party Standard Bearers in 2016 and 2020.
That they deserved better than someone, if she had won, would have spent all her time on television denigrating and disrespecting the Democratic Party. They deserved better than someone who was auditioning to add herself to The Squad.
Yes, real Democrats deserved someone who wanted to work WITH the Biden Administration.
And, they will get that with Shontel Brown.👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿

The overwhelming whiteness of Nina's crowds and the ridiculous embrace of Bernie Sanders was always a sign of something off in this race. Shontel parlayed each of Nina's missteps to victory. Hello, somebody has never won a contested race.

Rep. Jim Clyburn is the Kingmaker that Bernie Sanders wishes he was. Progressives decided to turn him into a villain instead of speaking with him, seeking his counsel and trying to collaborate with him. This is malfeasance and incompetence at its highest level. #OH11

The story of #OH11 is the story a terribly run campaign by Nina Turner even tho she had huge advantages. She had Bernie, AOC, Cornel West, Killer Mike and Keith Ellison campaign for her. Endorsed by Justice Dems and the local Cleveland paper. Hard to fumble that. But she did.

It wasn't money, folks. To be blunt: Nina Turner had more of it. Including both IEs and maxed out wealthy donors. It wasn't money. That's a false narrative being peddled by the Sanders establishment. Just a better candidate and better campaign, in a local race. #OH11
— Tom Watson (@tomwatson) August 4, 2021
It is complete BS to frame the Brown vs. Turner race as "establishment vs. progressive." Shontel is progressive as hell. If you want to frame it up, it's white anti-Democrat leftists vs. diverse actual Democrats, and yeah, I know Turner is black. Look who writes the checks.
— Greg Pinelo (@gregpinelo) August 4, 2021
This Democratic primary was a microcosm of many things. But the most important thing was who is ready to fight the Republican Party and who is easily distracted. We don't want or need people unwilling to fight them cause they're trying to sabotage us. That sh*t stops. Now. #OH11
— Rugged Amethyst #TexasBorn #CaliBred (@groove_sdc) August 4, 2021
The lesson I’m taking from tonight’s election results is that the Democratic Party voters are not about to allow themselves to be Tea-Partyed. While the Tea Party WAS the GQP’s base, in all their vile racist glory, the Berners are NOT the base of the Dems.

Right, because kids are protected by adults
The Community of Brown Grove vs. Wegmans
Why African American residents-turned-activists are trying to block a supermarket chain from building a warehouse in rural Virginia
By Tyrese Coleman with Melody Schreiber
AUGUST 4, 2021
The early December skies were foreboding as the protesters shivered in the chill outside a Wegmans grocery store. Still, they marched and held their signs high: “Wetlands over Wegmans,” “Not in my backyard,” “#Save Brown Grove!!!”
Among them were my cousins Renada Harris, 40, and Bonnica Cotman, 50. I’ve known them all my life, and I had never imagined them as activists, yet here the two sisters were, among the leaders of the group. In the past few months, I’d watched them go all-in trying to save our childhood home, Brown Grove, a historically Black community in Hanover County, Va., about 17 miles north of downtown Richmond. Brown Grove is facing, as they see it, the biggest existential threat of its 150-year history: the construction of a 1.1 million-square-foot, $175 million Wegmans distribution center.
The group outside the Wegmans store had traveled from a “drive-in” — a sit-in that, because of the pandemic, took place in cars — about 18 miles away at the Brown Grove Baptist Church, the beating heart of the historic neighborhood. Protesters from adjacent communities came, too, including Chris French, an environmental consultant who has helped lead the fight. The group peaked at 75 or so people, the organizers recall, but they were heartened that anyone had braved the cold, covid and the lingering fear — held over from before the civil rights era by many Black residents — of speaking out against White people and the retaliation that could follow.
“A lot of people in the neighborhood, the older people, they still clean somebody’s house,” says Renada, a hairstylist and owner of a salon with her other sister, Kimberlyn Washington. “Things have not changed that much. They’ve kind of gotten stuck in that realm of ‘better respect those White people.’ ”
………………………………..
“I’m afraid that if we don’t put a stop to this, Brown Grove is not going to be a place that people who grew up here will want to come back to,” says Bonnica, a lifelong resident and a founding member of the Brown Grove Preservation Group, a collection of concerned individuals. “The community will die.”

I wish progressives would take last night’s defeat and learn the correct lesson. Pick candidates who have extensive résumés in their Districts. They win because they earned the trust of voters.
Shontel didn’t win because of PACs.
She won because she had relationships & receipts.
“Shontel Brown wins Ohio Democratic primary in show of establishment strength…”
Yes, that would be the same Democratic Party establishment that gave us power grabbing, attention seeking, Senator Kyrsten Sinema, Enemy of Democracy. Maricopa County progressives warned the Democrats about Sinema but Schumer thought she was “the one who could win.”
The establishment Democrats better get off their a$$es and get some voting rights legislation passed before 2022 or we can plan to lose the House and the Senate and it isn’t going to make any difference who is establishment, who is progressive, who is independent etc… because we will all be LOSERS.
And, establishment Nancy better stick to her guns and not allow a vote on the “bipartisan” infrastructure bill until the Senate passes the Reconciliation bill. I’m afraid she will be under too much pressure because establishment Joe wants that infrastructure bill passed so he can say he accomplished something.
Voting rights is more important, more important than anything else that could be accomplished by this administration.
We are living in the shadow of Trump’s Big Lie and we have 74 million Trump voters who are too stupid to imagine what this country will be like when we lose our democracy. They do not place a value on democracy because they do not understand how their lives would be any different with an authoritarian government. And the one thing they have is a political party, the GOP, that will stop at nothing to take over the entire government. And they are doing it, state by state, and they have got to be stopped.
But the establishment Democrats are cheering their defeat of a progressive candidate in some congressional district in Ohio, joyful that Bernie got handed a plate of sh!t and isn’t that just the greatest thing because establishment Democrats don’t like Bernie.
This infighting will get you a Republican House and Senate in 2022 and two years of a lame duck Democratic president. After that, it remains to be seen if Biden could run again and unless things change, Kamala Harris probably couldn’t win. I still haven’t figured out the establishment’s plan for VP Harris but it’s very strange they’ve got her working on immigration where she can only fail and get set up for a sh!tstorm of criticism.
And this right here…..
“The answer to the so-called progressive leftist Bernie adjacent left tonight is simple.

My answer is watch how you talk to old white ladies who are sick and tired of hearing about children in this country without enough food while billionaires play with “space tourism.” Actually, that’s just one of hundreds of things I’m sick and tired of, but you get the idea.
Anyone who wants to take me on can give it a try. But I see Bernie as one of the very few legislators who actually wants to do something to alleviate the growing amount of inequality we have in this country and make multi-billionaires pay some taxes.
