They are not used to being held accountable. They don’t even know what accountability means. They are used to bullying a largely low income Latino population. They are used to running roughshod over them. They thought their bullshyt lies and excuses about what happened that day were going to fly. Now that folks are continuing to question them, they are getting defensive and belligerent.
From the Texas Tribune —
This is what reporters are dealing with in Uvalde:
City Hall has locked its doors during business hours and declined to immediately provide any public records to reporters.

I can’t get past that ‘ official ‘ standing there, telling folks that the reason the cops didn’t go in was ‘ because they could have been shot.’
COULD.HAVE.BEEN.SHOT.
THAT IS LITERALLY IN THE DESCRIPTION FOR POLICE OFFICER.
It’s part of the job. It’s the risk of the job.
This department, which takes up 40% of the city’s budget, is full of people who don’t think that IT’S IN THEIR JOB TO RISK THEIR LIVES FOR THOSE WHO PAY THEIR SALARIES?
DA PHUQ?
They sit there with good government jobs with benefits that they would be unable to get anywhere else, and then, are incompetent at those jobs.
The Uvalde mother who was handcuffed by the police and then ran to the school says that law enforcement threatened her with probation violation (and so criminal punishment) if she talked about her story to the media…: https://t.co/GiJHtKZIlP

wait wait wait, so the mom who ran fucking circles around a whole ass swat team to save her sons was threatened with a probation violation for talking to the media & dragged in front of a judge? thank god the judge saw sense, but who made this threat? https://t.co/e6pRIw57RN pic.twitter.com/589YPQ3FMS

I can’t get over the unmitigated gall of someone telling this Great-Grandfather that he should ‘stop living in the past’. Are you kidding me? Trying to minimize this man’s pain, in order to make excuses for his buddies.
The people that always tell you to “stop living in the past” & to “move on” sure have no issues clinging to a traitorous flag & honoring confederate generals. https://t.co/uRrzOLA2NQ

Then, there are the Republicans not only in Texas, but all across the country who have loosened the gun laws to insanity.
This is unacceptable!
The duly elected representatives of the affected areas are LOCKED out of the committee discussing THEIR own jurisdictions?
How does that not SCREAM #TexasCoverUp https://t.co/yK15wMtW9G

Rolling Stone reports after Uvalde shooting @GOP ordered to “Stay cool. Run out the clock. Scare some gun nuts while you can. But don’t worry: this moment will be over soon. “Switch the convo to inflation.”” Explains the tweet storm from @GOPSenate
