One of the issues that came up after the Supreme Court’s horrible Affirmative Action, was how this would affect HBCU’s.
Historically Black Colleges and Universities were developed post-Civil War to educate the newly freed Black populace. The question was what would happen with HBCU’s in response to the Supreme Court’s offensive ruling this week.
Point me to a Public HBCU, and I will point you to a college that has been UNDERFUNDED to the tunes of HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF DOLLARS.
The affirmative action ruling isn’t the HBCU win some think it is…
Did y’all forget that nearly all HBCUs are located in former confederate or slave-holding states that created two separate college systems based on race, just to underfund the Black system?
It never stopped.

This might have been a win for HBCUs if separate had ever guaranteed equal in the USA. But it hasn’t, doesn’t, and won’t.
At least not in education. We’ve already seen SCOTUS get it wrong in Plessy, half-ass rectify it in Brown, and now pretend none of that happened.
— Booker G. Washington (@TendentiousG) June 29, 2023
Meanwhile, colleges that benefit from that—especially the ones that historically rejected students because they weren’t white, and aren’t underfunded because they were never historically Black—must now pretend none of this racial history in higher ed matters.

And we know most of those students are and will be Black, at almost all HBCUs. So, the already underfunded HBCUs will be expected to take on even more marginalized (Black) students, with less resources.
— Booker G. Washington (@TendentiousG) June 29, 2023
So, why would a new admission system, that ignores the race of students who have been historically marginalized (or the race of any student), somehow help HBCUs, which mostly enroll historically marginalized (and poor) students?

Roland Martin made this point:
HBCUs presently are scrambling to meet higher demand. They don’t have the infrastructure. They are 237K HBCU students; 20% are non-Black. There are 1.6M Black students at PWIs. If 10% of those students opted for an HBCU, they cannot handle it. They need $$$ for dorms, etc. https://t.co/sIlkxVVmrv

Final thought
Harvard admitted its first student in 1636, but its first black student wasn’t admitted until 1847.
That’s roughly a 211 year disadvantage for black and brown people. To overturn affirmative action is to allow the sins our past to continue to permeate and poison our future. pic.twitter.com/WcJe5kY5OT

Reality Check: RBG didn’t retire because she didn’t want to and y’all have to get over that. Also she didn’t trust the Senate would confirm another liberal like her to the court. She had a point. https://t.co/XPMGdzUINk

RBG should have retired at the beginning of President Obama’s 2nd term.
That isn’t hindsight.
However, it is blasphemous to say it because RBG was much loved by many and her supporters choose to be blind to the obvious.
People get old, they get sick, they die.
PBO lost two appointments he should have had. The one stolen by Mitch McConnell and RBG’s replacement.

Twisting the meaning of equal protection clause of the 14th Amendment to defend colorblindness is a fraudulent trick. Colorblindness at its core is about evading responsibility for a racist past and perpetuating White Supremacy in the present.
