I have told you that I follow Jessica Valenti, for all the latest happenings about abortion in this country.
She came out with Calculated Cruelty in October, but, let us in last week, on some of the updates of what they’re doing . Just a warning, it might raise your blood pressure.

More than a year after Roe’s demise, Americans are still furious and Republicans are still losing at the polls—but the anti-abortion movement is full steam ahead. They’re thinking bigger than ever, cultural and political backlash be damned.

In addition to maintaining and expanding their state bans, activists are pushing for federal legislation, working to restrict birth control, funneling money to extremist crisis pregnancy centers, and making plans to open a national network of ‘maternity homes’. That’s to say nothing of their cultural campaigns to redefine birth control and preemptively blame doctors for the inevitable increases in maternal and infant death.

And while it’s hard to imagine anything crueler than the suffering we’ve already seen, the movement’s latest project may give all of their other efforts a run for their money.

The activists that decimated abortion rights have quietly rolled out a new initiative to pressure and force American women to carry doomed pregnancies to term.

It’s difficult to articulate the scale and cruelty of their vision, but I’ll try: This is a coalition of the most powerful anti-abortion groups in the country, coming together to change legislation, medical norms, patient care and more. They don’t just want to ban abortion in cases of fatal fetal abnormalities—but do away with prenatal testing altogether. It is massive, well-funded and terrifying. And they’ve launched it right under our noses.

I want you to think about that last part. They are waging a battle to prevent expectant mothers from being able to GET THE TESTS THAT WOULD INFORM THEM IF SOMETHING WAS WRONG WITH THEIR CHILD.

I want women in this country to understand. The forced birthers will not be happy until abortion is outlawed IN THE ENTIRE COUNTRY. They don’t care.
And, I want you to completely understand this..
THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS IN RED STATES. Because, you can’t FIND any exceptions that have allowed abortions.

Valenti has been saying this all along.
Don’t let them pretend that they are for ‘ exceptions’. How can it be an exception if you can’t ever find when it’s been applied?

2024 and the elections in 2024 have Body Autonomy as one of its main principles. We need to get abortion access on as many ballots as possible. They’ve already gotten enough signatures to qualify in Florida. Watch out and see what kind of machinations the Republicans do to try and prevent it from appearing on the ballot.

We also have a couple of cases before the Supreme Court. The one about the abortion drug. And, now another one challenging the federal government’s right to assert that hospital’s don’t have the right to refuse life saving care for women, even if it includes abortion. So, we’ll see how that turns out.
But, the right-wing doesn’t care about women’s healthcare. That much is obvious.

The short version, though, is that a coalition of the most powerful anti-abortion groups in the country are working together to ban abortion in cases of fatal fetal abnormalities, and to do away with the prenatal testing that provides those diagnoses. They’re not just targeting legislation, but individual women—embedding themselves in hospitals, doctors’ offices and anywhere else patients might be getting bad news about their pregnancy.

Worst of all, these groups are calling it “prenatal diagnosis counseling” and perinatal hospice care*—manipulating women in their most vulnerable life moments under the guise of offering real help. That characterization is also politically strategic: it means that when Democrats oppose funding to anti-abortion groups that lie to women about their fetal diagnoses, the GOP can claim that they’re actually callously refusing women counseling and care.
