Democrats Retain Control of Pennsylvania’s Supreme Court with Three-Seat Sweep
The GOP mounted an unusual push to oust three supreme court justices and erase Democrats’ majority on the court. All three prevailed easily in Tuesday’s retention elections.

Alex Burness | November 4, 2025

Three Democratic justices on the Pennsylvania Supreme Court have defeated an unusually high-profile Republican bid to unseat them. They secured large statewide victories on Tuesday, following an historically expensive campaign centered largely on the court’s role in defending voting and abortion rights.

The results preserve Democratic control of this all-important court for at least two more years. Barring any unexpected retirements, Democrats will enjoy a 5-2 majority until the next Pennsylvania Supreme Court elections, which are slated for 2027.

And Tuesday’s results mean that Republicans are now unlikely to win an outright majority until 2029 at the earliest; the best they could hope for in two years is to force a tie on the court….

One thing I learned early in politics: nothing is permanent. You can lose big one cycle and come roaring back the next if the ground shifts and your message hits.

That’s why watching Republicans brag about their “mandate” back in January after squeaking by in November is hilarious. The tables turned fast—and now they look ridiculous.

Stay focused. Stay united. The blue wave is coming.

Democrat Johnny DuPree Flips Republican-Held Mississippi Senate District in Pine Belt

by Ashton Pittman
November 4, 2025

Johnny DuPree, a Democrat who served as the mayor of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, for 16 years, has won a Republican-held Mississippi Senate seat.

With 92% of the vote in as of 9 p.m. Tuesday, DuPree led Republican Anna Rush in the special election for Mississippi Senate District 45 by a 71%-29% margin, WDAM reported. The district includes parts of Forrest and Lamar counties.

On his campaign website, DuPree said he was running because of “rising costs, underfunded schools, and broken promises to our communities.” He argued for a Mississippi Earned Income Tax Credit, “smart investments in our neighborhoods, and ensuring that every family has a chance to thrive.” He supports expanding Medicaid and eliminating the grocery tax…

I don’t understand camps saying: Dems need to follow the Mamdani model to win the midterms; or Dems need to follow the Spanberger model to win. It’s a big country. Different approaches work in different places. Candidates who connect w/their specific constituencies is the model.
