This says so much.

German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier says that the United States is destroying the world order:

“But there is also the fact that our most important partner, the United States, has broken with the values that it helped to establish and, above all, has played a decisive role in shaping over decades”

“In my opinion, we have now moved beyond the stage where we can lament the lack of respect for international law or the erosion of the international order; we are far beyond that, I believe”

“Both disrespect and erosion are well advanced. I believe that, and I want to emphasise it a little”

“Today, the aim is to prevent the world from turning into a den of thieves, where the most unscrupulous take what they want”

“Where regions and entire countries are treated as property rather than major powers”

“Where even medium-sized states, such as ours, are being pushed to the margins of history, and where smaller and weaker states are left completely unprotected”

And about Greenland:

Natasha Bertrand
@NatashaBertrand
Some behind the scenes on Greenland:

Trump has been proclaiming that he wants to purchase the island since 2019. But neither he nor anyone in either of his administrations has ever broached the idea directly w/Denmark or Greenland, diplomats said.

Natasha Bertrand
@NatashaBertrand
In any case, Greenland is firm that they’re not for sale. But even as Trump has repeatedly raised the specter of using the military to take the island by force, behind the scenes the US’ relationship with Nuuk and Copenhagen remained business-as-usual for most of last year, the people said.

Danish and Greenlandic officials were blindsided, therefore, when Trump appointed a special envoy to Greenland in December who said his role is aimed at making Greenland “a part of the US.” Danish and Greenlandic officials have still not heard from the envoy, Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry, the diplomats said.

And earlier this week, when Trump’s deputy chief of staff for policy Stephen Miller announced on CNN that it was now the “policy” of the US to acquire Greenland – adding that nobody would fight the US military “over the future of Greenland” and questioning Denmark’s right to claim the territory – Denmark and Greenland were irate. They immediately requested a high-level meeting with Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

    WaPo editor Matt Murray just sent this email to the newsroom:

    Early this morning, FBI agents showed up unannounced at the doorstep of our colleague Hannah Natanson, searched her home, and proceeded to seize her electronic devices.

    According to the government warrant, the raid was in connection with an investigation into a government contractor accused of illegally retaining classified government materials. We are told Hannah, and The Post, are not a target.

    Nonetheless, this extraordinary, aggressive action is deeply concerning and raises profound questions and concern around the constitutional protections for our work. The Washington Post has a long history of zealous support for robust press freedoms. The entire institution stands by those freedoms and our work.

    We have been in close touch with Hannah, with authorities and with legal counsel and will keep you updated as we learn more. In the meantime, the best thing all of us can do is to continue to vigorously exercise those freedoms as we do every day.

    Most of this is nonsense.
    – Greenland is important to US missile defence, including Golden Dome, because of its location and its early-warning radar. A US radar of one sort of another has been there for nearly 70 years, without the need for US sovereignty.
    – Greenland is also covered by Article Five & the US, with the rest of NATO, could protect it against any plausible Russian or Chinese attack.
    – Conflating Greenland’s military importance with the issue of US ownership is dishonest whether it’s done by analysts or the president.

    I think what’s going on here is the Trump-ICE war on Blue America, the sheer awfulness of the imagery of it, is awakening in many people an anti-totalitarian instinct that Dems can speak to effectively. Rogan calling ICE “Gestapo” gets at this.

    What a disgrace.

    A reporter reads the actual text of the Epstein bill; the part that explicitly protects survivors by allowing redactions of child sex-abuse material not too long ago.

    Reporter: “The survivors are comfortable with this. It’s in the bill.”

    Mike Johnson: “They’re not.”

    Reporter: “It’s up to the AG.”

    Johnson: “No it’s not! We’re not making this up.”

    They are making it up.

    This is gaslighting in real time, all to stall the release of the Epstein files.

    But sure, let’s talk about Bill Clinton instead.

    The Minnesota raid isn’t about safety. It’s a distraction.
