Rob Nabors, a new assistant to President Obama and director of legislative affairs, was staff director of the House Appropriations Committee under now-retired Rep. David Obey (D-Wis.).
Nabors started the administration as OMB deputy director and then went to Rahm Emanuel’s chief of staff’s office as a senior adviser, then returned to OMB after Peter Orszag’s departure, and was acting deputy director while Director Jack Lew awaited confirmation.
Heather Higginbottom was officially nominated Wednesday as deputy director.
From his official bio: “Nabors joined the Appropriations Committee in 2001. Prior to coming to the Appropriations Committee, Nabors served in the [Clinton administration] Office of Management and Budget as the Senior Advisor to the Director and as the Assistant Director for Administration and Executive Secretary. Nabors is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame, where he received degrees in Government and Computer Applications. He received a Masters Degree in Political Science from the University of North Carolina.”

Well lemme tell you about the state of Ohio. Our new governor, John Kasich, had a meeting with a state senator, Nina Turner, about the lack of diversity in his cabinet. He told her and I quote, ” I DONT NEED YOUR PEOPLE. ”
Kasich claims he was talking about democrats, but Ms. Turner, a black woman, knows better. As do the rest if us.
Not only is this man acting like he was elected King For Life. Not only is getting rid of jobs faster than a speeding bullet, he’s a hater. I myself am not surprised. He said during the campaign that he was going Tobruk this state like he ran Lehman Bros. That can only mean one thing- into the ground, since Lehman no longer exists.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Rush Limbaugh’s imitation of the Chinese language during a recent speech made by Chinese President Hu Jintao has stirred a backlash among Asian-American lawmakers in California and nationally.
California state Sen. Leland Yee, a Democrat from San Francisco, is leading a fight in demanding an apology from the radio talk show host for what he and others view as racist and derogatory remarks against the Chinese people.
In recent days, the state lawmaker has rallied civil rights groups in a boycott of companies like Pro Flowers, Sleep Train and Domino’s Pizza that advertise on Limbaugh’s national talk radio show.
“The comments that he made – the mimicking of the Chinese language – harkens back to when I was a little boy growing up in San Francisco and those were hard days, rather insensitive days,” Yee said in an interview Thursday. “You think you’ve arrived and all of a sudden get shot back to the reality that you’re a second-class citizen.”
During a Jan. 19 radio program, Limbaugh said there was no translation of the Chinese president’s speech during a visit to the White House.
“He was speaking and they weren’t translating,” Limbaugh said. “They normally translate every couple of words. Hu Jintao was just going ching chong, ching chong cha.”
He then launched into a 20-second-long imitation of the Chinese leader’s dialect.
The next day, Limbaugh said he “did a remarkable job” of imitating China’s president for someone who doesn’t know a language spoken by more than 1 billion people.
“Back in the old days, Sid Caesar, for those of you old enough to remember, was called a comic genius for impersonating foreign languages that he couldn’t speak,” Limbaugh said. “But today the left says that was racism; it was bigotry; it was insulting. And it wasn’t. It was a service.”

U.S. Shifts Tone on Egypt

WASHINGTON—With events moving rapidly in Egypt, the Obama administration sharply shifted its tone Friday, expressing “deep concern” over “unfolding” actions and urging “open communications” after Egyptian President Hsni Mubarak shut down Internet and cell services in the world’s largest Arab country.
State Department spokesman P.J. Crowley took to the social-networking site Twitter to say, “Events unfolding in Egypt are of deep concern. Fundamental rights must be respected, violence avoided and open communications allowed.”
That message was a change from Thursday’s calls for restraint, which were accompanied by mild expressions of support for Mr. Mubarak.
On PBS Thursday night, Vice President Joe Biden said, “Mubarak has been an ally of ours in a number of things. And he’s been very responsible on, relative to geopolitical interest in the region, the Middle East peace efforts; the actions Egypt has taken relative to normalizing relationship with—with Israel. …I would not refer to him as a dictator.”

Beauty is as Bardem does

Finding new adjectives with which to praise Javier Bardem’s captivating performance in “Biutiful” can be a challenge, particularly when some of the film community’s most prestigious talents have already had their say.
Bardem’s “Biutiful” bandwagon started rolling in May when Cannes Film Festival jury members rewarded him with their Best Actor prize. Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu’s heart-wrenching drama — and Bardem’s raw portrayal of a dying father, specifically — continued to collect accolades while riding autumn’s film-festival circuit.
Then the A-listers started weighing in — Sean Penn and Julia Roberts among them — saying his performance was Oscary worthy. Sure enough, the Academy agreed, nominating Bardem for a Best Actor Oscar this week.
In the wake of such adoration, my own admiration for Bardem’s performance seems trivial, but that’s not going to stop me from jumping on this bandwagon with both feet. He’s simply that astounding.
Take note that the beautiful Bardem — the one who romances Penelope Cruz off-screen and swept Roberts off her cinematic feet — is nowhere to be seen. To sample that version of this versatile performer, pick up the latest tabloid rag at your neighborhood supermarket or rent Ryan Murphy’s “Eat Pray Love” from the Redbox on your way home.

Washington University in St. Louis says Bristol Palin won’t be speaking there next month after all.
The decision comes after some students expressed outrage over Palin being paid with student-generated funds.
The daughter of former GOP vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin had been invited by the university’s Student Health Advisory Committee to be part of a panel discussion on abstinence on Feb. 7. Bristol Palin became pregnant at 17 and is a single mom to a 2-year-old son.
It’s not clear exactly how much she was to receive, but student leaders had approved spending $20,000 for the panel.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that the university issued a statement Thursday night saying the advisory committee and Palin decided “the message that they intended on sharing would be overshadowed by controversy.”

My daughter is attending community college with a young lady who gave birth by cesarean on Thanksgiving and was back in class on Monday. She told my daughter, “I can’t fail this class. I have to get my degree for my son.”
Hmmm….

Instead, as a girl of color, she’ll struggle, along with her boyfriend, to provide for their child while desperately trying to better themselves with a college education. Even if they succeed, they’ll probably never make the kind of $ this (fill in the blank, I’m trying to be nice) will get because she is some made up celebrity.

WASHINGTON (JTA) — U.S. Sen. Rand Paul wants to end all foreign assistance, including aid to Israel.
Paul, a Republican newly elected in Kentucky, was on CNN Wednesday outlining where he would cut the $500 billion in government spending he says is critical to sustaining the U.S. economy. His focus was on the departments of energy, education and housing.
Interviewer Wolf Blitzer then asked about foreign assistance, asking if he wanted to end “all foreign aid.” Paul said yes, and Blitzer asked him about aid to Israel.
“Well, I think what you have to do is you have to look,” Paul said. “When you send foreign aid, you actually [send] quite a bit to Israel’s enemies. Islamic nations around Israel get quite a bit of foreign aid, too.
“You have to ask yourself, are we funding an arms race on both sides? I have a lot of sympathy and respect for Israel as a democratic nation, as a, you know, a fountain of peace and a fountain of democracy within the Middle East.”
Blitzer pressed, “End all foreign aid including the foreign aid to Israel as well. Is that right?” he asked.
Paul answered, “Yes.”

Heavily armed riot police battled thousands of protesters across Cairo on Friday, as the Egyptian government sought to squelch a burgeoning pro-democracy movement that appears to be gaining strength.
Egypt’s government shut down Internet connections and cellular telephone service in an effort to disrupt communication among the demonstrators, who have relied heavily on social networking sites to organize their protests.
But crowds nevertheless were gathering in response to organizers’ call for a day of protests dubbed “Angry Friday,” Tear gas blanketed much of this capital city’s downtown, as demonstrators sought to converge on the centrally located Tahrir Square. The protesters were met by police wielding clubs and water cannons.

Breaking News Alert: Economic growth strengthened to 3.2 percent in fourth quarter

The economy gained strength at the end of last year as Americans spent at the fastest pace in four years and U.S. companies sold more overseas. The growth is boosting hopes for a stronger 2011.
The Commerce Department reports Friday that growth rose to an annual rate of 3.2 percent in the October-December quarter. That’s an improvement from the 2.6 percent growth in the previous quarter. And it was the best quarterly showing since the start of last year.
