Huh? The Tea Party Mandingo Fighter Ben Carson Denies Being an Uncle Tom by Uncle Toming on Fox News
Ben Carson, the Tea Party GOP Mandingo, has taken time away from his busy anointing tour as the newest Black Champion for the Right–and also issuing letters of marque, as well as absolution to his white conservative supporters–in order to address the accusation that he is an Uncle Tom.
On Fox News, in classic black conservative talking-point form, Ben Carson channeled the ugly allusion that “he is not on a plantation” and “can think for himself.” This is the same internalized racism for the benefit, amusement, and psychological validation of racially chauvinistic Conservative Whiteness that Herman Cain, Jessie Patterson, and other black garbage pale kids conservatives have been channeling for the amusement of their overlords and masters for at least a decade.
The suggestion that black people who choose to support the Democratic Party are “on a plantation” is ugly and indefensible. No other group has its political decision-making maligned in such a way, where a political choice is linked to the charnel and death houses that were plantation life during the slaveocracy in the United States and across the Black Atlantic.
Our Jewish brothers and sisters who have made the political choice to support the Democratic Party are not greeted with the accusation that “they are stuck in a Death Camp” and those who “escape” to the Republican Party are by comparison “liberated.” Poor white people who support the Republican Party against their own material self-interest also do not have their capacity for common sense and independent thought maligned as a matter of routine by media and political elites on a national stage.
Such ill-treatment is uniquely reserved for African-Americans. Our citizenship and national belonging are always viewed as contingent and suspect. History’s ironies are great: in America there is no more an “American” people than black folks (and our First Nations Brothers and Sisters). We are America. But the “real America” white blood and soil herrenvolk types have a very hard time accepting that fact, as for them, to be “truly” American means to be “free, white, and twenty-one.” No other groups need apply. Such attitudes are at the core of symbolic and conservative colorblind racism in the Age of Obama

Tim Graham should be hired to hold up brown paper bags against the skin of African-Americans in order to determine, to his satisfaction, if they are sufficient “black.” Tim Graham could also perhaps be hired to help coordinate the next census as he trains others in this most important of tasks.
Despite the howls of his critics, Graham is (ironically) in some ways more accurate than not in his description of the relative “blackness” of Karen Finney, the newest host on MSNBC.
Race is a true lie and a social construction. The meaning of race, and how different people are located within its shifting boundaries and categories, is a function of the politics of the moment, and the type of “social work” that race does in a given society.

Senate bill seeks to curb college vote
RALEIGH, N.C. — A bill filed in the state Senate Tuesday would carry a tax penalty for parents whose children register to vote at their college address.
Senate Bill 667, known as “Equalize Voter Rights,” would remove the tax exemption for dependents who register to vote at any address other than their parents’ home.
“If the voter is a dependent of the voter’s parent or legal guardian, is 18 years of age or older and the voter has registered at an address other than that of the parent or legal guardian, the parent or legal guardian will not be allowed to claim the voter as a dependent for state income tax purposes,” the bill says.
The measure would affect only state income tax, so it wouldn’t have much effect on out-of-state students. But it could effectively cut student voting in counties like Watauga and Orange, where college voters have been a key part of the Democratic Party’s dominance.
The bill would also require voters to have their vehicles registered at the same address as their voter registration. That also could cut down on college student registration, since many students maintain their vehicle registration in their home counties.
Sponsor Bill Cook, R-Beaufort, didn’t immediately respond to inquiries about the intent of the legislation.

Lunch denied to some Attleboro students
ATTLEBORO — As many as 25 students at Coelho Middle School were denied meals or told to throw their lunches away Tuesday because they could not pay or their pre-paid accounts did not contain enough money, school officials said today.Parents said some of the children cried after they were not allowed to eat or had to toss out their lunches.
School officials said an on-site employee from Whitson’s, the school system’s school lunch provider, apparently gave the order not to extend meals to students who could not pay or whose credit was already overextended.

It was a triumph of sorts, although one that only required defeating a former county legislator who did not live in the district, in a race that attracted the excited participation of about 10 percent of eligible citizens…
“There are too many people in politics who think that they know it all. And I think that they project this whole image of perfection,” he told Jake Tapper on CNN.

Since we last had Sanford to kick around, he’s been divorced and gotten engaged to the Argentinian squeeze. He virtually never mentions her and she barely got a shout-out on primary victory night. (“She completely surprised me,” claimed Sanford, who told Tapper that he just turned the corner on his way into the ballroom and there she was.)
His ex-wife, Jenny, has written a book about her marriage, and now South Carolinians know that Sanford is not just fiscally conservative; he’s also so personally cheap that he once gave his spouse a $25 used bicycle as a combined birthday-Christmas present. Also, there’s the revelation that he excused some of his mysterious absences from home by saying he needed to go off and relieve the stress he felt due to thinning hair.
Sanford has always had a terrible case of chronic self-absorption. Now that he’s talking about his feelings so much, it’s turned into a creepy New Age egomania. It began with his post-Appalachian-Trail press conference, when he rambled on and on about his love life as if the assembled reporters were best pals who’d invited him out for a drink. (“It was interesting how this thing has gone down. …”) More recently, according to New York magazine, he went to visit Jenny, who used to run his campaigns, and asked his still deeply estranged ex-spouse if she’d do another. “I could pay you this time,” he added empathetically.
Her refusal was probably a surprise. Like the victory night fiancée.

Go fuck yourself. Let’s cut bus service and Medicaid so the people who use them can get a tax cut. PRO-TIP, DOUCHENOZZLE- the people using these services are only paying payroll taxes. What makes this even worse is Yglesias was a huge fan of saving the payroll tax cut. You know what- basic fucking services are more important than a payroll tax cut, but even then, the progressive position would be to expand services to the poor while exempting the lower income earners while expanding the payroll tax beyond the current levels. Poor people don’t need fucking tax cuts. They need our fucking help. There are far more things I could say right now, but I am hammered and hoping DougJ deals with this more fully tomorrow.

Cuccinelli hopes to protect anti-sodomy law

The 4th Circuit Court of Appeals recently rejected Virginia’s anti-sodomy law as unconstitutional. The commonwealth’s state Attorney General, Republican gubernatorial hopeful Ken Cuccinelli, hopes the full appeals court will reconsider.
Although most people think sodomy laws have been unconstitutional since the Supreme Court’s 2003 ruling in Lawrence v. Texas, Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli would like to explain why — in his view — that’s not so.
What’s more, he wants the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals to agree with him and uphold the constitutionality of Virginia’s sodomy law — which makes anal and oral sex between people of any sex a crime — in the process.
Cuccinelli’s office insists this is not about the far-right Republican’s culture-war agenda, but rather, is about a victim of a serious crime. And at first blush, it may seem like a credible argument — the case in question involves a 47-year-old man, accused of being a sexual predator, who targeted a 17-year-old young woman. The man was charged with violating Virginia’s “Crimes Against Nature” statute outlawing sodomy.
But since there are already other laws related to sexual assault and sex acts with minors, Cuccinelli’s fight to protect an anti-sodomy law appears to be part of a larger social agenda from a Republican official who’s earned his reputation for extremism.
Indeed, as the Huffington Post noted, in 2010 Cuccinelli urged Virginia colleges and universities to end protections based on sexual orientation, and as a state lawmaker, he opposed a law that would have amended the law to comply with Lawrence, eliminating the provisions dealing with sexual conduct between adults and leaving in place other provisions.
And now Cuccinelli wants folks to believe his fight to leave an anti-sodomy law intact has nothing to do with his anti-gay worldview? To put it mildly, it’s hard to believe.

Rand Paul To Deliver Speech Next Week At One Of The Nation’s Oldest Historically Black Colleges

U.S. Sen. Rand Paul will deliver a speech to students at one of the nation’s oldest historically black colleges next week, part of the Kentucky Republican’s new push to reach out to minority voters as he explores a potential 2016 presidential bid.
Business Insider has learned that Paul will deliver remarks at Howard University in Washington, D.C., next Wednesday morning — just one month before former President Bill Clinton is scheduled to deliver the university’s commencement address.
According to a senior Paul aide, his speech will focus on school choice, civil liberties, and reforming federal mandatory minimum sentencing laws. Paul will also speak about the “history of the Republican Party and African American voters,” the aide told Business Insider.

In Nigeria, a growing number of men and women are using skin whitening creams because they believe a fairer complexion will help them succeed in life.
According to the World Health Organisation, more than 70 percent of Nigerian women admit they use such products despite the health hazards. That compares with 59 percent in Togo, and 27 in Senegal.
