Monday Open Thread | Black American Patriotism

I was reading this tweet and it just sucker punched me. Mr. Serwer just NAILED IT in a tweet:

I have said before that one of the few things that I will NEVER accept in my presence is the questioning of Black Americans’ patriotism.

Other groups give lip service and platitudes to the belief in the American ethos.

WE, as a community, have had to dig deep and find the reasons to believe in this country…and, we did.

While others mouth platitudes about what this country is about, WE have felt it in our bones.

AND, by our existence and persistence, we have pushed this country to go beyond platitudes, and live up to its ideals. I have always believed that this is the reason for the contempt towards our community. We force you to go beyond platitudes, which are easy, and push the hard work of actuality.

The era of Dolt45 had been revealing. Because, so many have revealed themselves to be frauds who believe in nothing but White Supremacy.

The so-called Christians who support the most un-Christian like policies towards the least of these by this Administration.

The so-called economic experts, who were on so concerned with the ‘fiscal health’ of this country while the Black Man was President, but seemed to have completely forgotten the word ‘DEFICIT’ since Dolt45 was inaugurated.😒😒

The so-called patriots who support a man who was put into place by a hostile foreign power. And, who they themselves can’t stop taking money from or stop visiting said hostile foreign power. They are ok with treason against this . What they have in common with the hostile foreign power is White Supremacy.

Their racism is now most obviously a National Security issue.
We, as a community, have dealt with racists in the White House before. What is new is dealing with someone who is obviously not acting in the best interests of this country. Someone that we don’t believe, even if we vehemently opposed the policies, we thought that their concern first and foremost, was the United States of America. Not some hostile foreign power. It is not a coincidence that this community is the most stridently against this Administration: we are defending our home.

Updated to add this from the NYTimes:

NYT Magazine (@NYTmag) Tweeted:
“Without the idealistic, strenuous and patriotic efforts of black Americans, our democracy today would most likely look very different — it might not be a democracy at all.” — Nikole Hannah-Jones

The debunked study you’re referring to was based on 21 undecided voters. For context that’s about half the number of people associated with your campaign who have been indicted.— Hillary Clinton (@HillaryClinton) August 19, 2019

The NY Times 1619 Project should make its slogan “All the Propaganda we want to brainwash you with”.it is a repudiation of the original NY Times motto.

As an Indigenous Woman, a Lakota who dreams of freedom and decolonization; I have to say both Indigenous and Black patriotism always feels like a betrayal.

There’s very little difference between the silly garbage tactics of the Berniebros and the paid Harris social media “influencers”..

And by the time this primary season is over, so much witting and unwitting damage will be done..

..and the targeted/intentional and collateral damage to so many others not in the running, will be devastating for the long run..

Some of these Democrats ain’t loyal.. And their blinding lust for power only exposes their character-deficiency..

And over the years as I’ve observed many of these same folks – both black and white – not much has changed..

If some of them thought even for a minute that they could get away with a whole lot more than just chipping away at the historic presidency …and without serious repercussions from the coalition they’ll need, they would go so much further..

We all know what Glenn Thrush is.. where his allegiances lie.. and what his mo has always been..

What folks are about to find out for themselves …what and who many of these Dems really are.. and the lengths they’ll go …and what they’ll say and do …and who’ll they’ll throw under the bus and run right over as often as they can, in their quest for power..

“..I will be damned if Sambo gets in before me..”

      -A “feminist”.

The idea that somehow feminism is suddenly all-embracing, is rather amusing..

They’ll maybe tolerate and try to provide cover for their racism …by overcompensating and exaggeratedly ‘touting’ their singularly handpicked and preferred version of ‘black’ .. and their preferred and tolerated token version is never, ever born of a black woman..

And that’s as far as that goes..

Just so we’re clear, conservatives argue that America was more united when we were literally segregated and that things are more divisive whenever Black people assert our citizenship or humanity.

Just so we’re clear, that’s white supremacy.

Listen, if people were unashamed of attending Epstein dinner parties—post his pedophelia conviction—everyone will be just fine welcoming Ivanka and Jared back to NYC. And the NY Times will chronicle her return with zero context. Predicting this now.
