Open Thread | The Debate on Critical Race Theory Was Never About Critical Race Theory

It was about White people not wanting their children to be taught ACTUAL American history.
They want to minimize the pain of those not-White in this country, and pretend that the fairy tale of America that they want to push is reality.

I have long felt that Black people are resented because we have been fighting for this country to live up to its creed. Our mere existence, and persistence, robs them of living in their land of delusion. Our patriotism can never be questioned, because we are the group of people who had to find a reason to believe in this country.

So, these laws that they are writing to deny teaching CRT…not only in K-12, but, even in college level and higher (thanks, Mississippi), isn’t about CRT. CRT wasn’t taught in K-12. Got these ridiculous folks bringing objections to Black History Month – –as CRT, which it is not.

This is American History….they don’t want it taught

Fannie Lou Hamer is truth….and, no, they don’t want this truth to be told.

Last year, far-right activists forced the state’s only clinic dedicated to affirming care for transgender youth to close. One imagines the threats of arrest Paxton and Governor Abbott have been making didn’t help.

If you are a teacher, doctor, nurse, counselor, or anyone else working with children in Texas, AG Paxton is legally requiring you to report any child you believe may be transgender or you may face prosecution yourself. Most adults in trans kids’ lives are now open threats.

This is a monstrous development. It effectively bans transgender children from the state of Texas. Families who cannot relocate may have their children removed from their custody. Transgender children may be taken from their families and placed in state custody.

Texas AG Ken Paxton has declared all forms of gender-affirming care for trans youth child abuse under existing law, threatening parents and doctors with prosecution and forcing all mandated reporters of child abuse to report trans kids to state agencies.

All 3 Republicans running for Michigan Attorney General just stated that they oppose the ruling in Griswold v Connecticut which outlawed prosecuting married couples for using contraception.

    You read that right.

An amendment was just filed by the sponsor of #DontSayGay to make it even more dangerous for vulnerable kids with a STATE-MANDATED outing of LGBTQ students to parents, specifically in cases of abuse, abandonment + neglect.

This will have devastating consequences for our youth.😢

No one is coming to help. Rural hospitals have been fighting a losing battle during the Covid pandemic. New cases may be declining elsewhere, but infections and crammed hospitals are still a problem in rural America

It’s just so obvious to anyone paying attention. Putin was getting what he wanted from Trump and expecting even more. For example, last night on #Russia’s state TV they acknowledged: “Trump gave us a 4-year reprieve.”
