Open Thread | The GOP, President Biden and Social Security

The GOP has been whining since President Biden called them out on their position on Social Security.

Make no mistake, Republicans want to dismantle the American Social Safety Net.

The President is only telling the truth.😒

I mean this with all my heart…the Democrats just need to award the printing contract. EVERY Democrat, not just the President, if they come in contact with the American people, need to hand out the GOP Plan for Social Security and Medicare.

There is nothing but telling the truth on the GOP.🤔🤔

if you’re in the house, the firebreather insurrectionist caucus have captured the leader, so you’re looking forward to two years of insanely unpopular messaging bills that are DOA in the senate, the jim jordan hearing show, and not much else.

    awe..poor babies….LOL

GOLIKEHELLMACHINE (@golikehellmachi) tweeted at 4:19 PM on Tue, Feb 14, 2023:
if you’re in the senate, right now, rick scott and dark brandon are basically forcing you to answer very dangerous questions about where you stand on social security and medicare that your donors do not want you to answer.

GOLIKEHELLMACHINE (@golikehellmachi) tweeted at 3:56 PM on Tue, Feb 14, 2023:
one thing that i think is true is that the average republican basically doesn’t give a shit about anything at all, which cedes the floor to people like rick scott or MTG or jim jordan, who do. this is also not dark brandon’s problem to solve for them.

GOLIKEHELLMACHINE (@golikehellmachi) tweeted at 3:51 PM on Tue, Feb 14, 2023:
as long as republican senators continue to propose things that could result in cuts to social security or medicaid and the party has not proposed any official alternative to those senators, this is the position of the party.

again, i understand that senators like ron johnson and rick scott make the job of GOP consultants much harder, but this is absolutely not dark brandon’s problem to solve for them.

Biden is much cannier than his critics credit him for. Mitch transparently thinks McCarthy is an absolute fucking idiot, and he thinks Scott is transparently venal. It’s not the venality that bothers him – Mitch is venal too – but the transparency.

Near-term dynamic is the debt ceiling: Republicans say SSec/Medicare cuts are off the table but it’s not clear how that squares with a path to balanced budget. But the bigger dynamic is Biden’s reelection bid: He appears determined to use this as a weapon.
