This is insane.Venezuela holds 303B barrels of oil.
At ~$57/barrel, that’s $17.3T in reserves.
Even at half price, that’s $8.7T.
In hours, the US claimed control over oil worth more than every country’s GDP except the US and China.
That’s 4× Japan’s GDP.
Most people don’t realize how big this is.

Kamala Harris
@KamalaHarris
Donald Trump’s actions in Venezuela do not make America safer, stronger, or more affordable. That Maduro is a brutal, illegitimate dictator does not change the fact that this action was both unlawful and unwise. We’ve seen this movie before. Wars for regime change or oil that are sold as strength but turn into chaos, and American families pay the price.
The American people do not want this, and they are tired of being lied to.
This is not about drugs or democracy. It is about oil and Donald Trump’s desire to play the regional strongman. If he cared about either, he wouldn’t pardon a convicted drug trafficker or sideline Venezuela’s legitimate opposition while pursuing deals with Maduro’s cronies.
The President is putting troops at risk, spending billions, destabilizing a region, and offering no legal authority, no exit plan, and no benefit at home.
America needs leadership whose priorities are lowering costs for working families, enforcing the rule of law, strengthening alliances, and — most importantly — putting the American people first.

It is very important, especially for a U.S. audience that may not be familiar with all the details, to clarify that in 2024 Edmundo González—now exiled in Spain—was elected president after María Corina Machado was barred from running. Machado remains the leader of the opposition, but González is the elected figure who would assume the presidency.I see this as the plan currently being pushed by members of the international community. President Macron has already alluded to this after speaking with María Corina Machado. With the UN Security Council scheduled to meet on Monday at 10:00 a.m., it is likely that discussions are underway with the UK and possibly even unlikely P5 actors such as China and Russia, aimed at advancing this option—one that avoids direct U.S. control while transferring authority back to Venezuelans.

First Thoughts on Trump’s Excellent Venezuela Adventure
by Josh Marshall
01.03.26 | 4:11 pm
Let me share a few thoughts about the U.S. action overnight in Venezuela. I say “action” because it’s not clear to me that the U.S. itself (as in the people calling the shots in Washington) know what this was, or have decided. I woke up in the middle of the night and saw the news of some major U.S. attack. That only registered a few WTFs in my mind. Then I woke up again at maybe 4 a.m. and saw at the least the claim that U.S. forces had captured and exfiltrated Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro. Then my WTFs escalated to 11.
When I woke up this morning I had a sense that this was essentially a raid, in the sense that we attacked and blew up a lot of things but with the central goal the capture of the head of state. That’s a raid and one that would keep the existing state in place, with perhaps the assumption that it would quickly crumble and be replaced by a friendlier government. But now the U.S. president is saying that the U.S. will “run” Venezuela for some undetermined period of time. At least to the best of my knowledge it’s not clear whether the U.S. has any military presence in Venezuela at all or that there’s been any effort to dismantle the current sovereign authorities beyond capturing the head of state. So back to the WTFs …
……………………..
A couple other thoughts.
I’ve heard a lot of people talking about not consulting with Congress or not receiving an authorization to U.S. force from Congress. I think this is far, far beyond what are essentially sub-constitutional technicalities. The U.S. president just went to war with another country and now will apparently occupy it for essentially no reason, with no warning and with public opinion overwhelming against all of it. Someone quipped on BlueSky last night that Trump hadn’t even taken the proper constitutional steps to lie the country into this war. This was more than just a funny line. Even lying the country into a war gives some due to the idea that the country is supposed to have some idea what the president is doing, why and some opportunity at least to register an opinion about it. Nor can any of this be separated from the broader domestic and global fabric of Trumpism, the casual illegality, the impetuousness and more than anything else the simple but always visible premise that Trump owns the United States, its military, its people, its wealth, everything. Someone told me earlier that this was like Trump taking his ICE raids global. And yeah, it pretty much is. Trump does what he wants, like one does with things one owns. You don’t ask your table what room it wants to be in and most employers don’t ask employees what tasks they want to do. In Trump’s mind he owns the country and its power. He won it fair and square in the 2024 election. Everything that stands in the way of that basic premise is an obstacle to be overturned.

BREAKING: Attorney General Pam Bondi unveils the “indictments” against Venezuelan President President Nicolás Maduro and they’re even more insane than experts predicted. You really can’t make this sh*t up…
“Nicolas Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, have been indicted in the Southern District of New York. Nicolas Maduro has been charged with Narco-Terrorism Conspiracy, Cocaine Importation Conspiracy, Possession of Machineguns and Destructive Devices, and Conspiracy to Possess Machineguns and Destructive Devices against the United States,” Bondi wrote on X.
“They will soon face the full wrath of American justice on American soil in American courts,” she continued. “On behalf of the entire U.S. DOJ, I would like to thank President Trump for having the courage to demand accountability on behalf of the American People, and a huge thank you to our brave military who conducted the incredible and highly successful mission to capture these two alleged international narco traffickers.”
To point out the incredibly obvious: it’s not illegal for Maduro to possess a machine gun. He’s the president of a sovereign nation with a standing military. Him having a weapon on Venezuelan territory is not a violation of U.S. nor Venezuelan law.
And of course, the American special forces operators who captured Maduro were carrying machine guns. Apparently, that’s totally fine and legal according to the upside down fascist logic of this White House. Laws only apply to political enemies of MAGA, never to enforcers of the regime.
The absurdity of the machine gun charges underlines just what a farce this entire operation is. The allegations that Maduro was running a narco-trafficking

🇺🇸🇻🇪‼️🚨 DIRTY TRICK:
The US pulled a dirty trick to be able to grab Maduro without getting congress involved, I’d guess it’s Rubio’s plan.
That’s how this worked:
1) USA invents a new bad cartel, “Cartel de Los Soles”
2) US declares Maduro as a head of the drug trafficking “Cartel de los Soles”
3) US designates “Cartel de los Soles” as a terrorist organization
4) Maduro is now a terrorist, with $50 million bounty on his head
5) The military can act against terrorists without congressional approval!
6) Maduro gets grabbed by the military quickly
7) For the actual trial, the US drops the whole “Cartel de Los Soles” act and admits it does not even exist
8) This allowed them to get Maduro without asking confess for approval.
That’s pretty dirty if you think about it, they invented a cartel to seize Maduro.

Over twenty-five years in the U.S. Navy, thirty-nine combat missions, and four missions to space, I risked my life for this country and to defend our Constitution – including the First Amendment rights of every American to speak out. I never expected that the President of the United States and the Secretary of Defense would attack me for doing exactly that.
My rank and retirement are things that I earned through my service and sacrifice for this country. I got shot at. I missed holidays and birthdays. I commanded a space shuttle mission while my wife Gabby recovered from a gunshot wound to the head– all while proudly wearing the American flag on my shoulder. Generations of servicemembers have made these same patriotic sacrifices for this country, earning the respect, appreciation, and rank they deserve.
Pete Hegseth wants to send the message to every single retired servicemember that if they say something he or Donald Trump doesn’t like, they will come after them the same way. It’s outrageous and it is wrong. There is nothing more un-American than that.
If Pete Hegseth, the most unqualified Secretary of Defense in our country’s history, thinks he can intimidate me with a censure or threats to demote me or prosecute me, he still doesn’t get it. I will fight this with everything I’ve got — not for myself, but to send a message back that Pete Hegseth and Donald Trump don’t get to decide what Americans in this country get to say about their government.

Statement from the Prime Minister of Denmark 🇩🇰:
“I must say this very clearly to the United States:
It makes absolutely no sense to speak of any necessity for the United States to take over Greenland. The United States has no legal basis to annex one of the three countries of the Kingdom of Denmark.
The Kingdom of Denmark — and thus Greenland — is a member of NATO and is therefore covered by the Alliance’s collective security guarantee. We already have a defence agreement between the Kingdom of Denmark and the United States that grants the U.S. broad access to Greenland. In addition, the Kingdom has made significant investments in security in the Arctic.
I therefore strongly urge the United States to cease its threats against a historically close ally, and against another country and another people who have stated very clearly that they are not for sale.”

72 years ago, the CIA orchestrated a coup d’état in Latin America… not for oil… but for BANANAS.
This was in Guatemala in 1954 to protect the profits of United Fruit Company (now Chiquita).
Jacobo Arbenz was a democratically elected popular leader who distributed unused lands to farmers, raised minimum wage, legalized labor unions, and provided free and compulsory education.
Of course, all these reforms were bad news for US agricultural firms, who depended for slave labor.
And guess who was the law firm that represented United Fruit Company in Central America? The law firm of John Foster Dulles – the Sec. of State and brother of Allen Dulles, the CIA Director.
The brothers also recruited Edward Bernays, the propaganda guru, to demonize Arbenz as a communist, to drum up support for regime change in Guatemala.
Thus, the CIA operation to overthrow Jacobo Árbenz, code-named Operation PBSuccess, was authorized by President Eisenhower in August 1953.
In 1954, banana company Chiquita once again became the ruler of Guatemala.

How does an entire administration not understand this basic reality? Venezuelan oil is not a quick payday or profitable.
Heavy crude takes years to extract profitably. It requires massive upfront investment, specialized infrastructure, refineries configured for heavy oil, long timelines, and political stability. None of that exists right now. None of it comes cheap. And none of it pays off fast.
So if this administration thinks invading, occupying, and “stabilizing” Venezuela is going to fund itself through oil anytime soon, they’re on a fool’s errand.

🚨 BREAKING: UNITED STATES SEIZES VENEZUELA’S $1 TRILLION IN PRECIOUS METALS
Less than 24 hours after the invasion of Venezuela, the US government quietly secured a MASSIVE smelter deal to process Venezuela’s $1 TRILLION worth of precious metals.
Cost of the new facility? $8 Billion.
The Financier? J.P. Morgan…
Connect the Dots:
1. J.P. Morgan is underwater on massive physical silver short position.
2. Venezuela sits on the “Arco Minero” (Trillions in unmined gold/silver).
3. The US Military removes the one guy standing in the way of the mines.
Coincidence?
This wasn’t a drug bust. It was a Hostile Takeover of a sovereign nation’s resource sheet.
They built the smelter facility before they even invaded. They knew… 🪙📈🏗️

Pentagon Moves To Cut Mark Kelly’s Retirement Pay
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced Monday that the Pentagon is moving to cut Sen. Mark Kelly’s (D-Arizona) retirement grade and pay in response to a video he recorded last year warning the military not to follow illegal orders.
Hegseth claimed Kelly’s video, which was recorded alongside 5 other congressional Democrats who served in the military, was “reckless and seditious” and that it “clearly intended to undermine good order and military discipline.”
“Captain Kelly’s status as a sitting United States Senator does not exempt him from accountability, and further violations could result in further action,” Hegseth said in a post online.
“These actions are based on Captain Kelly’s public statements from June through December 2025 in which he characterized lawful military operations as illegal and counseled members of the Armed Forces to refuse lawful orders,” he said.
Monday’s announcement and the administration’s criticism of Kelly come after Hegseth made a similar point that U.S. troops ought to ignore illegal orders from President Donald Trump in 2016.
