Margaret, I read the comment you sent me and felt compelled to respond. I know you don’t like it when I do, but honey you know how I feel about this particular subject.
Dear Readers,
In case you are new to my web page blog, I’ll give you a little background. I told my friend Margaret that I thought Sarah Palin was a bitch… is a bitch. Anyway, my grandson really hadn’t fully explained to me that other people could see this page besides Margaret. Which is kind of funny because Margaret actually has to have her husband, Howard, print the pages out for her to read because she doesn’t like computers very much….
But I digress.
So I kept writing about things and more people kept stopping by. Just yesterday I was telling Margaret that I find it very odd that Republicans think government is too big and healthcare for all Americans is just insane. It doesn’t seem to matter that it would cost less than Bush’s wars… but that would just be unAmerican of me to suggest…afterall Sarah Palin’s son is in
Again, I digress.
I find it odd because I know that Rick Perry, the Governor of my state, is really upset about how big government has gotten. Evidently it’s not big enough, however, because ‘ole Ricky seems to think its small enough to crawl up my vagina with a sonogram machine and a recorder so that Ricky can tell me how to think based on what God whispers in his ear when no one else is around. To be truthful, it could just be something he picked up in church. I’m not sure. It might have happened at his office. It’s really hard to tell the difference between his office and his church these days.
I just can’t seem to stay on subject today…
So that is what I was writing about to my friend Margaret. And then she had Howard print out my letter and some of your comments. Sometimes – like last night – she calls me because she gets so worried when one of you gets a little upset. But I tell her, “Margaret, dear. It’s just the internet. It’s not like anyone forces them to read it.” But Margaret worries. She just wants everyone to get along. You know. Agree to disagree and things like that. Which would be nice except that Governor Ricky wants to pass some new laws. And once that happens you can’t just agree to disagree. Once it becomes law if you disagree you have to spend a lot of money with lawyers or go to jail.
But I digress.

Diddy set to guest star on TV’s ‘Hawaii Five-O’

NEW YORK (AP) — CBS says musician-actor Sean “Diddy” Combs will guest star on an upcoming episode of “Hawaii Five-O.”
He will play NYPD Detective Reggie Williams, who arrives in Honolulu on the hunt for the men who committed a crime against his family.
The network said Wednesday that several of Combs’ hit songs will be featured on the episode, slated to air this spring.
Combs’ other acting credits include “Monster’s Ball” and an Emmy-nominated performance in “A Raisin in the Sun.”
“Hawaii Five-O” stars Alex O’Loughlin and Scott Caan.

Report: Jared Loughner studied assassinations

In the days leading up to his attempt to assassinate Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.), alleged shooter Jared Lee Loughner researched political assassins and punishments he could face for murder, an examination of his computer has found.
The Internet-browsing history on Loughner’s computer indicates that the 22-year-old visited websites that contained information on political assassins, solitary confinement and the process and effects of lethal injections, the Washington Post reported Wednesday, citing law enforcement sources close to the investigation.
Authorities seized the computer from Loughner’s Tucson home just hours after the Jan. 8 shooting and finished analyzing it last week. Their findings, sources said, will help prosecutors make the case that Loughner knew that he could face consequences for the shooting.
“The impression investigators have is that he was trying to educate himself on assassinations and also research the consequences,” one law enforcement source told the Post. Authorities would not offer official comments.
Loughner was arraigned Monday on one federal charge of attempted assassination for the shooting of Giffords and on two charges for shooting two of her aides. More federal charges — likely including the option for the death penalty — are expected for the deaths of U.S. District Judge John Roll and Giffords aide Gabe Zimmerman. He’s also expected to face state charges.

Bristol Palin To Speak At College’s ‘Sex Week’

Bristol Palin, the oldest daughter of former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, has been selected as the keynote speaker to talk about sexual responsibility at Washington University’s “sex week” next month.
The St. Louis, Mo., university plans the week each year “to start an open sexual dialogue, encourage students to experiment with sexual viewpoints that differ from their own and to provide wide-reaching sexual education,” according to StudLife, the student paper. Other guests have included famed TV doctor and “Loveline” host Dr. Drew.
Bristol Palin, now 20, was notably put in the spotlight during the 2008 presidential campaign for becoming pregnant at the age of 18. Since giving birth to Tripp, she has partnered with anti-teen pregnancy campaign the Candies Foundation, and even filmed a few ads for the group.
While the politically-charged nature of the selection has caused some minor turbulence on campus, one of the organizers behind the event explained to StudLife that her presence would help round out an annual happening that is often criticized for being one-sided.

Maddow Rips CNN For Airing Bachmann’s SOTU Response

Rachel Maddow criticized CNN for airing Michele Bachmann’s Tea Party-themed response to the State of the Union, calling it an “inexplicable” decision.
CNN was the only network to air both the official Republican response, given by Wisconsin congressman Paul Ryan, and Bachmann’s speech. Speaking on Tuesday night, after the response had aired, Maddow said she was at a loss to explain CNN’s choice.
“Michele Bachmann is not the national spokesperson for the Republican Party,” she said. “She is unlikely anytime soon to be chosen to be the spokesperson for her party. But tonight, inexplicably, a national news network decided that they would give Michele Bachmann a job that her own party never did.”
Maddow called it “a remarkable act of journalistic intervention to elevate, in effect, a group with which they are co-sponsoring a presidential debate…to the level of the major parties in this country.”
CNN, Maddow said, “decided tonight not to just cover the news about the State of the Union, they decided to make their own.”

I’ve pitched the following article to 10 publications since May, including the Huffington Post on Nov. 30, without any luck. Today HuffPo published an article on the subject, “Ayn Rand and the VIP-DIPers,” by Michael Ford. Perhaps it’s just coincidence. To be fair, I didn’t realize that Scott McConnell’s book, “100 Voices: An Oral History of Ayn Rand,” was published last month. And if Ayn received Medicare benefits under an assumed name (is that even possible?), that explains why my FOI request came up empty. But rather than let all my hard work go to waste, I’ve decided to go ahead and publish my article here on my blog.

An interview recently surfaced that was conducted in 1998 by the Ayn Rand Institute with a social worker who says she helped Rand and her husband, Frank O’Connor, sign up for Social Security and Medicare in 1974.

Michele Bachmann (R-MN) offered a combative and highly misleading speech of her own following the president’s address. In her “Tea Party Response,” Bachmann repeated a litany of false right-wing talking points about everything from the Recovery Act and job losses to the debt and “16,500 IRS agents.”
Bachmann: “Failed Stimulus,” And Unemployment “Spiked”
BACHMANN: Unfortunately, the President’s strategy for recovery was to spend a trillion dollars on a failed stimulus program, fueled by borrowed money.[…] Not only did that plan fail to deliver, but within three months the national jobless rate spiked to 9.4 percent. And sadly, it hasn’t been lower for 20 straight months. While the government grew, we lost more than 2 million jobs. Let me show you a chart. Here are unemployment rates over the past ten years. In October 2001, our national unemployment rate was at 5.3 percent. In 2008 it was at 6.6 percent. But, just eight months after President Obama promised lower unemployment, that rate spiked to a staggering 10.1 percent.
Unemployment Didn’t “Spike” — It Grew Steadily Under Bush-Era Policies…
The Economy Shed Almost 8 Million Jobs Under Republican Policies Before The Recovery Act Could Affect The Economy. According to economist Robert J. Shapiro:
From December 2007 to July 2009 – the last year of the Bush second term and the first six months of the Obama presidency, before his policies could affect the economy – private sector employment crashed from 115,574,000 jobs to 107,778,000 jobs.
Employment continued to fall, however, for the next six months, reaching a low of 107,107,000 jobs in December of 2009. So, out of 8,467,000 private sector jobs lost in this dismal cycle, 7,796,000 of those jobs or 92 percent were lost on the Republicans’ watch or under the sway of their policies. Some 671,000 additional jobs were lost as the stimulus and other moves by the administration kicked in, but 630,000 jobs then came back in the following six months.

She truly can’t believe that people have forgotten that Bush and the Rethugs created this failed economy and more specifically loss of jobs. We have not forgotten. But I do think that AA really need to hone in on this job situation because we will be the ones who will become the most chronically under/unemployment groups in this country. We need to speak up and out on what’s being created, how we will obtain the skills for the new jobs and the hiring practices that will follow. Need to be heard on this one!

Gabrielle Giffords’ Condition Upgraded From Serious To Good

Rep. Gabrielle Giffords’ condition has been upgraded from serious to good, NBC News reports.
Giffords, who was shot in the head during an alleged assassination attempt on January 8, was previously upgraded from critical to serious condition nine days ago.
Giffords watched the State of the Union in a Texas hospital with her husband, Mark Kelly.

After last nights SOTU Speech, what does everything think about the “new jobs” proposals? Will it work for most Americans or will there be people lost in the cracks of the economy for ever? Old jobs people are accustomed to will never return; white people doing the hiring on these “new jobs” will badly discriminate for lack of skills and white people will be the only ones with jobs and they wont know what the hell they are doing in the jobs either??? AA are NOT shovel ready on infrastructure jobs. SO, WTH? Chronic long term unemployment will become a fact of life. What happens to an American Dream deferred?

My bias, I guess, comes from living in Texas. And the demographics here just don’t pan-out for AAs on infrastructure jobs. I think we need to re-visit Affirmative Action hiring in government sponsored programming. Cause I’m just not seeing it down here.
