President Obama speaks to the nation about Trayvon Martin’s death.

TEXT: Family of Trayvon Martin Issues Statement Responding to President Obama’s Remarks on Shooting Death of Fla. Teen

“It is humbling that President Obama took time from his busy schedule to talk about Trayvon and offer the support of the Department of Justice and other federal organizations.

The President’s personal comments touched us deeply and made us wonder: If his son looked liked Trayvon and wore a hoodie, would he be suspicious too?

We’d like to thank the President and the millions of people from around the world who have shown their support for Trayvon by participating in hoodie marches, rallies or through social media. We are all working together to not only get justice for Trayvon, but also to ensure that this kind of senseless tragedy doesn’t happen to another child.”

WALKING WHILE BLACK, THE SENSELESS KILLING OF TRAYVON MARTIN

While the nation continues to mount an all out and justifiable assault on the circumstances surrounding Trayvon’s death, let’s not forgot the conditions that gave rise to this young man’s death in the first place: white supremacy, or to put it nicely, a white dominated society. Rest in peace Trayvon Martin; may your death not be in vain.

Hoodies on the Hill: Congressional Staffers Rally for Trayvon Martin
A group of Capitol Hill staffers gathered today on the U.S. Capitol steps to rally in support of Trayvon Martin, the 17-year-old unarmed boy gunned down in Sanford, Fla.

About 250 to 300 aides rallied this afternoon in support of “Hoodies on the Hill.” Participants were encouraged to wear hooded sweatshirts in the 80 degree heat and to bring Skittles candy and iced tea, two items Martin was carrying when he was killed by a 28-year-old man as he walked back to his father’s girlfriend’s house.

“We have a mandate to ensure that young boys like Trayvon live their lives and that they’re successful and that they have the opportunity we have today,” said Brandon Andrews, a congressional staffer who said he was representing African American men on the Hill.

Senate Chaplain Barry Black, a retired commander in the Navy, led the group in prayer, invoking Martin Luther King, Jr. and telling the crowd of his own experiences with racial stereotyping.

“I don’t have my hoodie, but I do have my skittles,” Black said, dressed characteristically in a white shirt and bowtie. “This is a great tragedy and I guess one of the positive aspects of this is it has awakened in so many, across all racial lines and awareness, that we need to do more to ’cause justice to roll down like waters and righteousness like a mighty stream.’”

I have a small school for boys in my den. i am a retired great grand mother and I pick up and drop off my boys because they would not come everyday . I get them from a low income area.. I am asked “why boys ” my answer is when you go to schools whom do you see sitting out side of the classroom ,whom do you see suspend from school especially kindergarten. Our Boys are target from before birth. They are seen at the bottom of the good list and top of the bad list.. I can only do a little but i give it all that I can. We as a nation need to stop letting the old school tell us what is wrong with our boys and allow young innovated people come in the interest of our boys began programs to expose inspire and influence our boys and not with just one answer but many answers. This is the dawn of a new day it always get worst before it gets better BUT a change has come. Lets pray people. God is in the mist of this murder a change has come. Obama 2012 always with the right words.

“..when I think about this boy, I think about my own kids and I think every parent in America should be able to understand why it is absolutely imperative that we investigate every aspect of this and that everybody pulls together, federal, state and local, to figure out why this tragedy happened…I think all of us have to do some soul searching to figure out how does something like this happen. That means we examine the laws and the context for what happened, as well as the specifics of the incident. But my main message is to the parents of Treyvon Martin. You know, if I had a son, he’d look like Treyvon and I think they are right to expect that all of us as Americans are gonna take this with the seriousness it deserves and get to the bottom of exactly what happened.”

A lot has happened since Trayvon Martin’s parents, Tracy Martin and Sybrina Fulton, started their petition on Change.org demanding that Trayvon’s confessed killer, George Zimmerman, be arrested.

But George Zimmerman still hasn’t been charged with Trayvon’s killing.

Tracy and Sybrina have vowed to fight as long as it takes to get justice for their son — so this Monday they are leading a march in Sanford, Florida to deliver more than one million petition signatures demanding justice for Trayvon. Will you join them?

Here are the details for the event:
WHEN: Monday, March 26 at 4pm
WHERE: Centennial Park, 400 S Park Avenue (between W 4th St and W 5th St), Sanford, FL 32771 — we’ll march to the Civic Center from there.

Tracy and Sybrina’s petition has already had a huge impact: Trayvon’s death has been covered by every major news outlet in America, the FBI and Department of Justice are investigating, and Sanford Police Chief Bill Lee has been placed on temporary leave for his handling of the case.

If thousands of people show up to support Tracy and Sybrina this Monday, Sanford’s leaders will see that they can’t sweep Trayvon’s case under the rug.

Click here to RSVP on Facebook for the march this Monday to deliver more than one million signatures to demand justice for Trayvon. (Note that you do not need to RSVP in order to attend!)

Thanks, and I hope to see you on Monday.

I am so emotional right now..

WE GOT YOUR BACK, PBO. YOU AND YOUR FAMILY. 3 CHICS KNOWS WHAT DAY AND TIME IT IS.

    SOUL-SEARCHING….

    • America needs to do some soul searching. A young child was gunned down because he was black. No more lynchings, No more Emmett Tills. We have had enough!

      • Ametia says:

President Obama’s message is a POWERFUL one. And folks had better know that as cautious as he had to be in articulating the message and consoling the Martin Family, make NO mistake about it.

He knows the swath of HATEFUL, RACIST, BIGOTED folks who want nothing more than to take him out, just like Zimmerman murdered Trayvon. The President knows he and his family are under SS protection and that that in NO time in AMERICA’S HISTORY has there ever been as many threats against a sitting president as there has and continues to be for President Obama and his family.

        Folks had better RECOGNIZE!
