School threatens to expel 12-year-old stude over her natural hair

A Florida school told a 12-year-old African-American girl that she either does something with her hair or should start looking for a new school.
Newscaster: “There’s nothing you can do, there’s no wiggle room. Either fix it or you’re out.”

Update: African-American girl won’t face expulsion over ‘natural hair’
A Central Florida teen told Local 6 on Monday she faced expulsion because administrators at her private school wanted her to cut and shape her hair. But a day later, administrators appeared to have changed their mind, saying she will not be expelled.

I don’t understand what Vanessa’s parents expected when they enrolled her in one of these ‘Christian’ academies.
Many academies in the South were created as a result of desegregation so it’s not surprising that she’s girl who looks biracial is being discriminated against.
Vanessa looks like Lisa Bonet. Is it possible that her mom is white and doesn’t know how to style black hair?

She is just too dang cute!
I think she’s absolutely adorable. A woman I knew back in CA led a dance troupe of Hawaiian dancers. This young girl’s hair style with the flower that she wears immediately reminded me of my them. It’s sad that the school is focused on the wrong things. The girl is obviously well groomed, very intelligent and talented. They should take pride in that instead of making a national spectacle of how backward and intolerant they are.

She is a beauty. What a terrible way to treat such a lovely young girl with such a beautiful look and great spirit. She will gain such strength from this and she has my support.
