The Homegoing for Michael Brown

Gunned down before you ever got the chance to become a man. When I look at you, I see the baby face, just like Trayvon. You still had your baby face. You never got to grow into your manly face. People are fighting for you, Michael. They’re fighting and saying that you matter. Your life mattered. Your potential mattered. And, someone should be held accountable for taking you too soon from this Earth.

Your mother’s tears are our tears.

WE SEE YOU.
You were our son.
You were our brother.
You were our nephew.
You were our cousin.
You were the young man in the neighborhood that had goals.

Michael Brown

Langston Hughes asked the question long ago….

A Dream Deferred
by Langston Hughes

What happens to a dream deferred?

Does it dry up
like a raisin in the sun?
Or fester like a sore–
And then run?
Does it stink like rotten meat?
Or crust and sugar over–
like a syrupy sweet?

Maybe it just sags
like a heavy load.

Or does it explode?

A line of roses lines the street where Michael Brown was shot. #Ferguson

Darren Wilson’s supporters wear racist comments proudly but claim to be decent people on law and order side. Yeah right! #Ferguson

Darren Wilson supporters show true colors today with racist comments. Yet claim righteousness on side of law & order?#Ferguson

Some of the hateful, vile, and mean-spirited comments I’m reading on twitter are making me sick to my stomach. They have the nerve to accuse Rev Sharpton and other Brown supporters of hate, but the Darren Wilson supporters are the ones spouting out the hate. Should I start posting some of their hateful comments?

Btw, I was woke and in my bed when the earthquake hit here. My bed rocked back and forth like a rocking chair.

    • yahtzeebutterfly says:

Wow, I am glad you are okay…that sounds like a tremendous earthquake.

I was living in California when the San Sylmar one hit. It jerked the house back and forth.

My belief is those reposting hateful tweets would just give them more voice which would probably please the haters.

    • Ametia says:

Granny, glad to hear you weren’t injured during the quake. Take care of you.

VMAs: Common Leads Moment of Silence for Ferguson

7:00 PM PDT 8/24/2014 by Hilary Lewis

Common got serious at the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday night, prefacing his presentation of the award for best hip-hop video by urging those in the audience and at home to take a moment to remember what happened this week in Ferguson, Missouri.

After saying that people’s attention has been drawn to the civil rights protests, he called for a moment of silence “for Mike Brown and for peace in this country and in the world.”

The audience at the Forum complied with Common’s request, and, as the camera panned across the crowd, Snoop Dogg could be seen flashing a peace sign as he had his head bowed.

It was not JUST the unjustified shooting of #MikeBrown that led to protests. It was the systematic coverup & lack of information as well.
