#Ferguson Grand Jury will reconvene on Monday

Ferguson protesters on Nov 22ndThe grand jury investigating the killing of Michael Brown by Ferguson, Mo., police Officer Darren Wilson is not meeting this weekend and will reconvene Monday, sources told ABC News.

Speculation that a decision on whether to indict Wilson in the shooting was coming soon has increased tensions in a town that already was on edge.

Federal, state and county officials have been ramping up their readiness in case there is a fresh wave of angry and, at times, violent protests over the jury’s decision. Protesters have been demanding that Wilson be charged with murder for the Aug. 9 shooting of Brown.

Did Don Lemon just blame Ferguson ‘commotion’ on ‘bloggers’

Moments ago on CNN, hosts Don Lemon and Chris Cuomo were discussing some commotion at a midday press conference amid the troubles in Ferguson, Mo. When Cuomo asked what went on, Lemon sprinted away on a memorable riff demonizing…bloggers:

OK, here’s the thing that people at home should understand. So there is this outrage that everyone thinks is out there. Most of that outrage is coming from the Internet and social media. When you actually come here on the ground and the people who are actual protesters…most of them peaceful.

Holder: Federal Ferguson investigation will continue
    By Jeremy Diamond, CNN
updated 5:43 PM EST, Tue November 25, 2014

Washington (CNN) — Attorney General Eric Holder said Monday night that a federal civil rights investigation into the shooting of Michael Brown will continue despite a St. Louis County grand jury’s decision to not indict Ferguson police Officer Darren Wilson.

Holder noted that federal civil rights cases have a “high legal bar,” but said federal investigators have “resisted forming premature conclusions.”
    Ferguson on fire

“Though we have shared information with local prosecutors during the course of our investigation, the federal inquiry has been independent of the local one from the start, and remains so now,” Holder said in a statement. “Even at this mature stage of the investigation, we have avoided prejudging any of the evidence.”

He added that the Justice Department is also still investigating allegations of misconduct by the Ferguson Police Department.

Today’s comments from AG Holder. Says that DOJ will be “launching pilot programs in five cities to help build better relationships between the police forces and the communities they serve.”

Eric Holder promises ‘thorough’ civil-rights probe in Ferguson

By Phillip Swarts – The Washington Times – Tuesday, November 25, 2014

The Justice Department’s civil rights investigation in Ferguson will be “thorough,” Attorney General Eric Holder said Tuesday, adding that law enforcement must work to “restore trust” and “foster understanding.”

Mr. Holder’s comments come the day after a grand jury decided not to indict Officer Darren Wilson for the death of black teenager Michael Brown. The announcement set off a wave of protests around the country and rioting in Ferguson.

Mr. Holder said he was “disappointed that some members of the community resorted to violence,” and that the “acts of violence threaten to drown out those that have legitimate voices.”

“The way we’ve made progress in this country is we’ve seen peaceful, nonviolent demonstrations,” the attorney general said.

Problems of racial mistrust aren’t isolated to Ferguson, and Mr. Holder said the Justice Department is launching pilot programs in five cities to help build better relationships between the police forces and the communities they serve.

Department officials said they would announce the five cities within the coming days.

“This isn’t just about talking,” Mr. Holder said of the program. “We want to make sure concrete steps are taken.”

White people simply do not understand the fundamental lack of trust in law enforcement that exists within the Black community. And, they don’t understand why that undermines this country as a whole.

I’m not talking about Pookey and Ray-Ray having no trust.

I’m talking about my and the overwhelming swaths of Black America that gets up, goes to work everyday, and loves their family. The people like me, who have never had nothing more than a parking ticket in terms of ‘ infractions’.

I do not trust law enforcement.

If on a jury, I would never give them the benefit of the doubt.

I wouldn’t trust a word that comes out of their mouths.

    Period.

I have three degrees and I have no more trust in law enforcement than Pookey.

If you don’t understand what that means…

We’ve just learned the grand jury convened to investigate the shooting death of Michael Brown has chosen not to indict Officer Darren Wilson.

C, this is a devastating setback in our fight for justice. But the grand jury’s decision does not mean a crime was not committed in Ferguson, Missouri, on August 9. It does not mean we are done fighting for Michael Brown.

Sign our petition to the Department of Justice. Demand resolution to the federal, criminal civil rights investigation into Michael Brown’s death.

We are all filled with frustration, disbelief, and anger over this decision. That the officer who shot and killed an unarmed black man with his hands in the air remains free is appalling. Local officials in Ferguson utterly failed in their duties to conduct an open and transparent investigation.

The local prosecutor who oversaw the grand jury process has significant personal, family, and professional ties to the local police department—the same local police who were slow to talk to witnesses and eager to attack protesters and journalists.

We will not allow this to be another Sanford, Florida. We will not allow the justice system to let us down once more. Take action today, for Michael, and for all of our sons.

While the NAACP joins the community in standing for peaceful protest, we will hold law enforcement officials accountable and ask that they adhere to the rules of engagement agreed upon.

We stand united with the community and other activists groups, demanding that all police officers wear operable body cameras; police departments reflect the diversity of the community that they are serving; and that Congress passes the End Racial Profiling Act.

ST. LOUIS (AP) – U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill of Missouri is calling for residents and law enforcement in her home state to remain peaceful after the announcement that a white police officer will not be indicted in the shooting death of an unarmed black 18-year-old.

The Democratic senator made the comments Monday night after official word of the grand jury’s decision not to indict Ferguson police Officer Darren Wilson, who shot and killed Michael Brown.

McCaskill called the announcement “a result of a deliberate legal process.” She says the result is being “independently checked” by a separate U.S. Justice Department investigation

A woman accidentally shot and killed herself late Friday with a gun she bought to protect herself from unrest in Ferguson.

The woman, identified by police as 26-year-old Becca Campbell, was riding in a car with her boyfriend near some vacant lots in downtown St. Louis, reported CNN.

The 33-year-old man, whose name was not released, said Campbell waved the gun around and joked that the couple was ready for possible violence related to the pending grand jury decision in the death of Michael Brown.

“We’re ready for Ferguson,” she allegedly said.

The man said he ducked to avoid the weapon and accidentally wrecked into the rear of another vehicle.

The crash caused the gun to fire accidentally, and Campbell was struck in the head by a bullet.

She later died at a hospital.

Michael Brown, a 6’4, 180 pounds 18 year old black man who may have once smoked pot, and may have ‘robbed’ a pack of cigarillos from a store at thumbs point, deserved to be murdered in cold blood by the nice police officer who was acting in self defense during a jaywalking stop after he felt threatened by the unarmed 18 year old big black man walking 180 yards away from the nice police officer safely tucked away in his squad car.

Excuses are made for the cold blooded killer – his parents divorce exacerbated his mental state, so his mother tried to shield him from the stigma by plying him with guns. Yet, Michael Brown’s mother – a woman who lost her son for no good reason gets no courtesy or empathy. Not from the police who murdered her son in cold blood, or from his police department. Not from the governor or the justice system in Missouri. She gets nothing from the media who keep insinuating her son somehow brought it upon himself and are more concerned with protecting Michael’s murderer and clearing the way for him to be exonerated and going on to live his life without being bothered.

Michael Smerconish and Joe Scarborough are representative of the pervasive and despicable racist mindset that afflicts the so-called ‘moderate’ beltway conservative/libertarian crowd, who continually permeate so-called liberal/progressive circles and are besties with a whole bunch of our own people. Can you begin to imagine what consists of the hard right-wing ? Can you imagine what the likes of Smerconish and Scarborough say and do when they aren’t holding court on what qualifies as ‘liberal’ media outlets??

  72. Darren Wilson has been meeting with network anchors: What the heck?

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/erik-wemple/wp/2014/11/23/darren-wilson-has-been-meeting-with-network-anchors-what-the-heck/

Credit CNN’s Brian Stelter with a very big scoop. On today’s “Reliable Sources” media-news program, Stelter reported that “high-profile news anchors” have spoken in “secret locations” with Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson. The sessions have been off-the-record and, the way Stelter tells it, they’ve been auditions for one of the biggest exclusives of this century — namely, the sit-down talk with the elusive officer who killed Michael Brown in Ferguson, Mo., on Aug. 9.

Some details exist. NBC News’s Matt Lauer, ABC News’s George Stephanopoulos, CBS News’s Scott Pelley and Anderson Cooper and Don Lemon of CNN have met with Wilson, according to Stelter.

“Because it was off the record, those anchors can’t talk about the meetings and the networks can’t even confirm that they happened,” Stelter notes.

For just about any other story, this would be standard television ritual, no big deal. In off-the-record negotiations, networks commonly court all kinds of interview “gets” — celebrities, athletes, scholars and unintentional public figures like Wilson himself. Someone secures the exclusive and goes on a PR blitz, and the losers sulk.

Yet this is the case of Darren Wilson. As the Washington Post’s Chico Harlan noted in a recent story, Wilson has pulled off an extraordinary disappearing act since his clash with Brown. So absolute has been his exit from the public eye that the St. Louis County prosecutors’ office said that “several” pending felony cases relying on testimony from Wilson “could not proceed” in his absence, Harlan reported.
