Prince has announced a second Rally 4 Peace concert to honour Freddie Gray in Baltimore this Mother’s Day.

The singer-songwriter will headline Royal Farms Arena in West Baltimore on Sunday (May 10), less than three miles from where Gray was first detained. Prince will be joined by “several industry superstars”, according to a press release obtained by CNN.

“The event is meant to be a catalyst for pause and reflection following the arrest and death of Freddie Gray,” the press release says. “Attendees are invited to wear something gray in tribute.”

I love seeing our youth out there. The boy in the pic has a sadness about him that just breaks my heart. You know he knows countless folks that have died either through police violence or citizen violence. Just heart-beaking.

  5. Governor Larry Hogan Calls For Statewide “Day Of Prayer And Peace”

    http://governor.maryland.gov/2015/05/02/governor-larry-hogan-calls-for-statewide-day-of-prayer-and-peace/

BALTIMORE, MD – Governor Larry Hogan today called for a statewide “Day of Prayer and Peace” to start tomorrow following the weeklong demonstrations in Baltimore City. The governor released the following statement:

“Just a few days ago, the people of Baltimore City, Maryland, and the entire nation watched as Baltimore was consumed by violence and tragedy. Homes and businesses were devastated and police officers were openly attacked by the few who chose aggression over peaceful demonstration. Tonight, I once again strongly urge all citizens of Baltimore, and those from outside our city and state, to remain peaceful, and nonviolent. As we prepare to start a new week, I ask that all Maryland citizens join me in a day of prayer and unity for Baltimore City and the State of Maryland.

“Over the last week, I have witnessed countless acts of compassion, kindness, and leadership by the residents of Baltimore. I have seen what is possible when we stand united against violence in our communities. As we begin to rebuild and restore, let us renew our faith in the true spirit of our city and its people. I pray that tomorrow will be a day of reflection and will serve as a foundation for how we all conduct ourselves in the days and months to come.”

As part of the statewide “Day of Prayer and Peace,” Governor Hogan will attend a church service at St. Peter Claver, tomorrow at 10:45 AM with Archbishop William E. Lori. The governor will be available for brief questions following the service.

In addition, Lt. Governor Boyd Rutherford will attend a service at 12:00 PM at Southern Baptist Church, 1701 N. Chester St. Baltimore MD 21213

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) — Family members of Eric Garner joined the Rev. Al Sharpton at a New York City “rally of thanksgiving” for the charges brought against six Baltimore police officers in the death of Freddie Gray.

……Garner’s widow asked why there seems to be justice in Baltimore, but not in New York City.
“The same way the man was screaming for medical attention and they refused to get it was the same way my husband was screaming ‘I can’t breathe,’” she said.

Garner’s family vowed to continue their fight for justice in his case.

      HEARTBEAKING

      • yahtzeebutterfly says:

It was videotaped and still no justice.

So much sadness…Kelly Thomas’ father seeing the torturing to death of his son; Eric Garner’s loved ones seeing the videotape of his killing; Sybrina and Tracy hearing the Trayvon’s desperate cry for help.

        SO HEARTBREAKING.

Correction: Detained. No charges. Told they will be “properly ID’d” and released. Will update. #BaltimoreUprising

  10. Ametia says:

There is no FUCKING rush to judgement here.

the only RUSH here was these filthy cops severing Freddie Grays spine and crushing his vocal cords and withholding medical care.

Freddie Gray is DEAD & 6 cops were involved, there is evidence, they were charged, they will get due process in a court of law.

The venue does not need to move into a neighborhood were the jury can be planted with white racist cowards who will run on CNN’s Anderson Cooper with their faces smudged out, and spew how much so and so was a ‘good father’ etc.

    FUCK OUTTA HERE

  11. Ametia says:

When are they going to LIFT THE CURFEW?

The curfew is beginning to BORDER ON SUNDOWN TOWNS.

    LIFT PLEASE!

The Three Black Cops Who Killed Freddie Gray are Slave Drivers in the Age of Obama

    Check it out here:

    • Ametia says:

      THIS:

“Black cops tend to be cops first. The so called “blue wall” demands their allegiance, even to the point of law breaking. The black cop in the Walter Scott case apparently didn’t give a second thought to lying to cover up the truth of what his colleague had done. Their oath is to “uphold the law,” and yet what this says is, their real loyalty is less about the law, than it is towards this system of institutional abuse.”

Tamir Rice was such a beautiful child.

If the @BaltimorePolice can be charged 12 days after the death of #FreddieGray WHY 160 outrageous days for #TamirRice pic.twitter.com/XZUrSq2jrn— Shaun King (@ShaunKing) May 1, 2015

    • Ametia says:

Liza, it’s that ‘rush to judgement’ bullshit, also too. /SNARK

      I like this comment:

“They won’t indict unless we fight.”

  14. Ametia says:

Comments around the inner-NETS; why are folks in Baltimore still protesting?

Anyone care to answer this questions?

    • Charges are a step but that’s NOT Justice. Folks want justice. Folks want reform of this white supremacist system.

Until we get that, the struggle continues…

    • Liza says:

The arrest of six cops who mutilated and murdered a young man for absolutely no reason is a step in the right direction, but that’s all. Right now it’s one of the few rare occasions when cops are charged for killing or maiming a black person. People need to protest until this type of crime is eradicated and, if it should occur, the perpetrators are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Just like the rest of us.

      • Ametia says:

Thank you, Liza! Add to it, these cops who mutilated and murdered Freddie Gray are all OUT ON BAIL

They’re getting due process, something Freddie, Tamir Rice, Michael Brown, Walter Scott, Eric Gardner, and countless others NEVER RECEIVED.

THEY WON’T INDICT, UNLESS WE FIGHT!

    • sunshine616 says:

People asking that question will never understand the answer.
