The GOP is coming for reproductive rights. Make no mistake on that.
The recently passed bills in Georgia, Alabama, Ohio, and pretty much anywhere where the GOP is in charge of the State House.
Thousands of American women have obtained abortion pills online in the past six months, according to figures that highlight the escalating difficulty in accessing safe abortions on the ground.
Data shared with the Guardian reveals that 21,000 women requested abortion medication between October 2018 and March this year from the charity Aid Access. Between a third and a half of the women who made the requests were then sent abortion pills in the mail. The majority of the recipients live in states with hostile abortion policies.
Women who obtained pills online described desperation at being unable to access affordable medical services locally, with some saying they had considered extreme measures to end their pregnancies.
“The reality on the ground is already so desperate,” said Rebecca Gomperts, founder of Aid Access, which provides online prescriptions for abortion pills that are dispatched to the US by mail. “If a woman cannot access a normal abortion in the US they will do anything to end their pregnancy.”
I follow a poster on another blog named Kay, who is an attorney. She always looks at laws like this through her attorney eyes. She says that the Democrats and all who care about reproductive choice, need to rename these bills not Anti-Abortion Bills, but PREGNANCY BILLS.
Because, this is about the State being involved in EVERY PREGNANCY.
Exceptions for Rape and Incest? Nope.
Just had a case where an 11 year old would have been forced to carry to term under these new laws.
Arkansas has decided to jump into this by passing a pro-spousal rape bill, that allows husbands who impregnated their wives through rape the right to sue to stop an abortion.

20 or more years ago anti-abortion people used to run this tv ad that was probably pretty effective. It was an empty swing on a playground and “choose life” or something equally non-coercive. Have to love that now they have no qualms about bringing the hammer down. Because of course now, under our scheme, rape or incest victims can choose to carry the pregnancy. There are no mandated abortions. They’re not happy until they remove that option. If they don’t trust a woman in that horrible position to make that decision why would they trust her with the baby?

It’s just shocking, isn’t it? To turn over her body to someone else – like real estate. He has a claim on that plot for a year.
The woman is the only one who isn’t permitted to choose. He can choose not to bring a lawsuit. They can choose to draft these laws and pass them and enforce them however they want. She has no choice. She’s the inanimate, silent object of these laws. The condition of being pregnant opens her up to all these people’s claims.
The woman’s PREGNANCY would become an issue for THE STATE, and allow for THE STATE to define what you do with your pregnancy. Not ‘bad women’, or’ sluts’ or ‘promiscuous hoes’…
ALL WOMEN will be subject to this.
And, let’s make it clear and plain – they won’t stop at abortion.
THEY ARE COMING FOR YOUR BIRTH CONTROL.
And, also, don’t be silly that they will be satisfied with leaving it to ‘the states’. I believe the Georgia bill has it so that the woman will be charged if she leaves the state to go to another state where abortion is legal. You think they won’t come after those blue states where abortion is allowed? Come on, now.
Democrats pit GOP against American public opinion on Roe v Wade
Senator Chuck Schumer talks with Rachel Maddow about exposing Republican senators who won’t admit to holding the unpopular position of opposing Roe v. Wade but who consistently vote for judges who are likely to overturn it.
