Open Thread | The Impeachment Inquiry Is Approved: NOBODY Is Above The Law

The House of Representatives voted on the rules for the Impeachment Inquiry of Dolt45.
The vote was 232-196, with no Republicans voting in favor, and 2 Democrats voting in opposition, with the Republicans.
Let’s be clear – this is the vote that the Republicans have been whining about for weeks, ever since the beginning of the closed door testimony. Now that it has happened, they voted against it, and will have another goalpost for them to move.
You either have a society of laws or you do not.
The President is not above the law. This vote today makes that clear.

Here is the vote – thank you, C-SPAN:

She caught hell, but, she stood strong. Had patience. And, in the end, she was right.
Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi:

Tell it, Nancy Smash 👏 👏

Keith White (@keethers) Tweeted:
It’s hard to put into words how fortunate we are to have Nancy Pelosi in charge right now. The partisans who disagree with her politics don’t fully realize it, but she’s holding the republic together right now. https://twitter.com/keethers/status/1189925179138433025?s=17

Another person who has held it down is Congressman Adam Schiff- Chairman of the Intelligence Committee:

Now, remember, NO Republican voted with the Democrats. When it came down to it, all of them are cowards. There are no ‘ principled’ ones. Even the ones who won’t be running again, couldn’t come and vote for the Constitution that they swore and oath to:

Mieke Eoyang (@MiekeEoyang) Tweeted:
House GOP: “The process is a sham, there are no open hearings!”
House Dems: “Let’s vote to have open hearings.”
House GOP: “I vote no.” https://twitter.com/MiekeEoyang/status/1189925497901330432?s=17

Oliver Willis (@owillis) Tweeted:
republicans keep saying you can’t impeach trump because the election is 13 months away. must have missed that section of the constitution. i guess its next to the “no scotus nominations in an election year” clause. https://twitter.com/owillis/status/1189944065166434304?s=17

Jennifer Rubin (@JRubinBlogger) Tweeted:
Important: Each time GOP uses “no due process” argument it is incumbent on press to point out this is false. The resolution provides more due process than afforded any other president in history. Ask what other due process do they want? They will not be able to name anything. https://twitter.com/JRubinBlogger/status/1189932058405195776?s=17

For the bleachers
Malcolm P. Johnson (@admiralmpj) Tweeted:
I hope everyone heard what @RepAdamSchiff just said.
A lot of Republican members who have had the right to attend the depositions, HAVE NOT ATTENDED THE DEPOSITIONS.
A lot of Republican members who have had the right to attend the depositions HAVE NOT ATTENDED THE DEPOSITIONS.

Someone who way ahead of the curve:
Congresswoman Maxine Waters👏👏

Now, after the House holds its impeachment vote, if they vote for impeachment, it goes over to the Senate, led by Moscow Mitch. Well, we know what the GOP Senate Caucus looks like….they look like bought and paid for stooges of Dolt45.

Everytime you want to open your mouth to complain about what the Democrats are not doing…think on this…..without November 2018, you would not be here. NONE of this would be happening. The Republicans have proven that they will not follow their oaths of office. That they will not follow the Constitution. They will follow Dolt45 and his illegality to the very end. No matter how much it betrays our country, and puts the National Security of our country at risk. They chose Dolt45 over America. Never forget that.

I am not a Russian Troll.
I am not a passerby in observing American politics.

I deal with the system we have…not the one for ponies and unicorns.
The woman said, from her own plan, that it would cost 2 million jobs.
She has also said that she’s too pure to accept PAC money.
Anyone naive enough to think that the insurance industry is going to go down without a fight. So, think about their millions upon millions spent .
Then the GOP ads. Like I said, 2 million jobs lost…speaks for itself.
They aren’t being honest about them actually DESTROYING MEDICARE AS WE KNOW IT. They took the name of something popular – MEDICARE – all the while with the intentions of actually demolishing it.
We have a party so hateful and spiteful, that, in a number of states, they don’t care about their own people losing access to care due to rural hospital closings…they won’t expand Medicaid….
And, you think that folks are going to be ok with letting this plan tear up healthcare as we know it?

Plus, this can’t be done with reconciliation. So, let’s say you actually get it past the House…tell me how you get to 60 votes in the Senate….even if the Democrats take over the Senate in 2020? Show me the support – on the Democratic Senate side – for destroying the filibuster.

Is nobody going to bring up that a nice part of this depends upon Comprehensive Immigration Reform passing? Or, is that too trollish to point out.

I don’t think we’re going to get to “Medicare for All” in a single leap. Basically for the same reasons that we don’t have solar panels everywhere in Arizona (the Valley of the Sun) or high speed rail coast to coast (or anywhere) or energy efficient automobiles or mass transit systems in every city etc etc…

Corporations rule. The insurance companies are not going to allow a single payer health care system any time soon, maybe never. So, if we want to provide universal access to healthcare, and I mean healthcare not just access to insurance, it is most likely going to be a very fragmented, hosed up conglomeration of different “systems” (much like it is now).

Sure, the Medicaid expansion in red states would help a lot. But someone please explain to me how we are going to deal with the under insurance problem.

People need to get more for their healthcare dollars than just the peace of mind that if something really bad happens to them they won’t go broke. And that is really what health insurance is about for a lot of people. The rest is high premiums, copays, deductibles, etc…

    Hi, Florida attorney here.

Donald Trump is about to get ripped apart by NY Courts and there isn’t a single presidential power that can stop it.

He’s moving to Florida because of a unique unlimited Homestead provision in our Constitution letting him keep a home of any value.
