Making America Gross Again: Big Fugly Bill Hits the Senate Floor
June 30, 2025/15 Comments/in Congress, Domestic Policy /by Rayne
[NB: check the byline, thanks. Updates will be added at the bottom of this post. /~Rayne]
Trump’s big ugly bill will be up for a vote in the Senate this morning.
It takes money from hungry children and gives it to the already rich as Marcy has previously said, and the Center for Budget Policy and Priorities has quantified.
EMTALA: Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act of 1986. They want to ditch 39-year-old legislation which assures Americans obtain
— a medical screening examination (MSE);
— are stabilized with an emergency medical condition;
— are transferred or accepted as a patient as appropriate and needed.
What are we left with if the GOP Senate knocks off EMTALA?

This Isn’t a Budget. It’s a Betrayal.
The “pro-life” party my ass.

There was a time in my life when I didn’t know how I was going to feed my kids.
I was a paraprofessional in a public school classroom, working with autistic preschoolers—tiny, luminous souls who hadn’t yet found their voices. I was there for their first words, their first real smiles, their first trembling moments of safety in a world that so often meets them with confusion or cruelty. That work wasn’t just a job—it was sacred. I gave it every ounce of patience, love, and hope I had.
But I was barely surviving. My paycheck was a cruel joke—nowhere near a living wage.
My friends became lifelines, quietly tucking bags of groceries into my back seat while I pretended not to notice, their kindness wrapped in dignity instead of pity. I sobbed on the phone with the oil company, my voice shaking as I begged for one more extension, promising I’d find a way, somehow. Every day was a gauntlet of impossible choices: groceries or hot water, gas for the car or dinner on the table. I stood in the checkout line, hands trembling, doing frantic math in my head, praying I wouldn’t have to put anything back, praying no one would see how close I was to breaking.
That kind of fear carves itself into you. It crawls into your bones and settles there, heavy and cold. It changes how you move through the world, how you breathe, how you hope. It humbles you in ways you can never quite explain—and it never, ever lets you forget.
And today, Republicans are sharpening their knives to carve tens of millions of Americans—mothers, children, grandparents, veterans—straight into the jaws of fear. Not just fear: bone-deep, marrow-chilling desperation. That silent, paralyzing terror you feel when you realize the safety net is gone and there’s nothing but concrete below.
Let’s not kid ourselves. This isn’t a budget vote. This is a vote on who gets to live and who gets to beg for mercy
And, the attack on EDUCATION.

What murkowski doesn’t realize is that while she got some kickbacks for Alaska, she still is harming WA State. Interestingly Alaska does not have a level 1 trauma center in their state (neither does Idaho). They all rely on access to Harborview Medical Center ( a state/public hospital) for level 1 (high acuity) services. She is essentially screwing the state that her state needs to access vital care
