This is the new meme for the media’s summer entertainment, paint Barack Obama as unintelligent, as not having earned his education in Harvard on merit, but because he was black man. Watch out for this next phase of the racist birthers and some of the GOP attempts to delegitimize our president.
This isn’t the first time Pat Buchanan has been allowed to spew this racist nonsense. Remember Sonia Sotomayor’s Supreme Court nomination? Sonia Sotomayor graduated summa cum laude, from Pricneton University.

Those who attempt to denigrate Affirmative Action opportunities for African Americans and Latino Americans are quick to assume that because one was provided with an opportunity it was undeserved. I attended graduate school at UCLA as a result of an Affirmative Action fellowship. Many of my white classmates assumed that I did not possess the skills to compete with them. Class after class, my work earned A’s, while their’s earned b’s and C’s.
In my department most students were required to write a thesis in order to graduate. Only the very top candidates were invited to take the three days of oral exams instead of writing a thesis. Legend had it that in the history of the department only two students had ever been invited to sit for the oral exams. During my second year of the three year program, my department chair recommended me to present a paper I’d authored at an international conference. A few weeks after I presented the paper, my department received a request for it to be kept on file by the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Imagine how dumbstruck they were when the department announced that because I had already achieved status as a published author in our field of study, I was to be the third student in the department’s history to be invited to sit for the oral exams. It was only then that it began to dawn on my anti-Affirmative Action classmates that I really was smart enough to sit in class with them.
Candidates for degrees were required to have their respective theses approved by June 1st in order to graduate. I sat for and aced my oral exams the first week of March. On the day of my last exam, I ran into one of my classmates who had been the most vocal about the unmerited Affirmative Action opportunities. He was a third year student and when I encountered him, he’d just been told he had to re-write his thesis for the 3rd time. I’ll never forget the look on his face when I told him that I had just successfully completed my oral exams and was headed to the beach to celebrate for the next three months. “How in the world could you be finished?” he asked. “You’ve only been here two years!” Laughingly, I responded “I know isn’t Affirmative Action great? You white guys have been the recipients of Affirmative Action for centuries it actually convinced you that you were smarter and superior. Now you know. The new Affirmative Action got me in the door but my brain and my work enabled me to out-perform your racist butt!”

The gall of him to ask for the President’s test scores when he didn’t dare ask Sarah Palin.
