Video |Donald Sterling LA Clippers Owner Tells Girlfriend “Don’t Bring Black People to my Games”

Donald-Sterling-V.-Stiviano

WHELP, CLippers fans, WHAT SAY YOU? This is just a hot mess. Apparently The Donald’s wife Rochelle is suing V. Stiviano for shanking her husband. Any guesses as to how this clip got into the hands of TMZ?

Bundy, Sterling and the racists who can cause real harm
    By Colbert I. King,

Donald Sterling and Cliven Bundy made it easy for inquiring minds.

    “Mama. What’s a racist? ”

“Why here, honey: Read all about it.”

That’s all it takes. Sterling and Bundy, racism personified.

The reaction to both men’s comments also came with ease as well as in high dudgeon: emotional explosions of outrage and anger.

Words can do that. Offensive, hurtful words never fall out of use. Nor, too, the emotions they express.

A passionate dislike for black people is deeply ingrained in some white folks — it’s an integral part of their lives. To claim that Sterling, the 80-year-old Los Angeles Clippers owner, and Bundy, a 67-year-old federal-government-
hating rancher, are part of a dying breed is absurd. They have peers and heirs who share their repugnant views.

    Thus it has always been.

But that is not the issue. The issue is: How much damage can they cause?

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/colbert-king-bundy-sterling-and-the-racists-who-can-cause-real-harm/2014/05/02/fa92bc7c-d164-11e3-9e25-188ebe1fa93b_story.html?wpisrc=nl_opnsat

    • Ametia says:

      THIS:

It’s the little Hoovers among us — the influential, under-the-radar haters — who can inflict the real damage.

      Among them are:

      ●Smiling and personable human resources directors who, in their heart of hearts, share to some degree Bundy’s ideas about black people;

      ●Police officers who, like Sterling, believe black people are undesirable creatures, thus subject to arrest at the slightest excuse;

      ●White editors who believe black reporters do best when writing about other blacks, especially black social ills, thus reserving paths up the newsroom ladder for the white reporters;

●Insecure white managers in a position to bark out orders to black workers pursuing white-collar and professional careers, shooting down their ideas, making slights about their intelligence and throwing them under the bus when things go wrong.

  2. Report: NBA lawyers authenticate Sterling audio recording

    http://msn.foxsports.com/nba/story/donald-sterling-nba-lawyers-audio-recording-042914

Two NBA lawyers have authenticated the audio recordings purportedly of Clippers owner Donald Sterling making racially charged remarks, TMZ reports.

The lawyers heard the 15 minutes of leaked recordings but not the remaining 45 minutes that have not been released, according to the report.

    V. Stiviano, Sterling’€s alleged mistress, was reportedly present at the meeting for the purpose of authenticating the tape.

The NBA is planning a Tuesday news conference to discuss the investigation.

NBA spokesman Mike Bass said additional details will be announced, though it’s unclear when that may happen.

The news conference is a clear sign NBA Commissioner Adam Silver — in the first real crisis of his short tenure — is both following through on his plan to move quickly on this matter and adhering to a request from the players’ union for some sort of resolution in short order.

    • Ametia says:

    Sterling faces tough challenge
NBA bylaws clear that L.A. Clippers owner must accept commissioner’s ruling

The alleged racist and misogynist rants of Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling will test the leadership of new NBA commissioner Adam Silver. Sterling’s apparent misconduct raises legal questions about Silver’s authority and possible punishments to be assessed against Sterling:

Q: Can Silver force Sterling to say whether the voice on the tapes is his?

A: Yes. Under the terms of Paragraph 24(m)(ii) of the “constitution” that governs the 30 owners of NBA teams and establishes the authority of the owners’ commissioner, Silver can require Sterling to respond under oath to questions. The commissioner has “the right to require testimony and the production of documents and other evidence from any Member.” As an owner, Sterling is a “member” of the NBA. Sterling and his lawyers could delay answering questions from Silver, but if Sterling refuses to admit or to deny that it is his voice on the tapes, he is in violation of the constitution and would face termination. He has no protection from the U.S. Constitution’s Fifth Amendment guarantee against self-incrimination, because he is not facing any charge of any crime.

What bothers me about this whole Donald Sterling affair isn’t just his racism. I’m bothered that everyone acts as if it’s a huge surprise. Now there’s all this dramatic and very public rending of clothing about whether they should keep their expensive Clippers season tickets. Really? All this other stuff I listed above has been going on for years and this ridiculous conversation with his girlfriend is what puts you over the edge? That’s the smoking gun?

He was discriminating against black and Hispanic families for years, preventing them from getting housing. It was public record. We did nothing. Suddenly he says he doesn’t want his girlfriend posing with Magic Johnson on Instagram and we bring out the torches and rope. Shouldn’t we have all called for his resignation back then?

Shouldn’t we be equally angered by the fact that his private, intimate conversation was taped and then leaked to the media? Didn’t we just call to task the NSA for intruding into American citizen’s privacy in such an un-American way? Although the impact is similar to Mitt Romney’s comments that were secretly

    • Liza says:

“Instead of being content to punish Sterling and go back to sleep, we need to be inspired to vigilantly seek out, expose, and eliminate racism at its first signs.”

Good point. Remember Riley Cooper, the Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver? Last summer we saw the video of his racist rant and verbal assault on a black security guard at a country music concert. So what happened? The Eagles do basically nothing, let the redneck have his “breakout” season (ha ha), and reward him with a 25 million dollar contract. Then they let go their best WR, De Sean Jackson, for reasons they never divulged. This is not the way to deal with racism in professional sports. Cooper’s stupid, racist a$$ should have been fired, instead he gets 25 million dollars.

    SHOCKER!!!!

Donald Sterling Is a Registered Republican
—By Asawin Suebsaeng and Patrick Caldwell | Mon Apr. 28, 2014 9:48 AM PDT

Does it really matter whether racist LA Clippers owner Donald Sterling is a registered Democrat? Or a Republican? Or a member of the Pirate Party of Russia?

Well, according to multiple conservative media outlets, yes, it does matter. On Sunday, National Review ran a blog post originally titled, “Racist Clippers Owner Donald Sterling Is a Democrat.” The post breathlessly noted a handful of contributions he made in the early 1990s to Democrats politicians, including California politician Gray Davis and Sen. Bill Bradley, who had played in the NBA. (Sterling has owned his NBA team since the early 1980s.) The headline has since been changed to “Racist Clippers Owner Donald Sterling Has Only Contributed to Democrats,” with an update reading, “his official party affiliation is not known.” Still, the Donald-Sterling-Is-a-Democrat meme already took hold within right-wing media:

“Report: Clippers Owner Caught In Racist Rant Is A Democratic Donor” — Fox Nation.

“NBA Sterling is a Democrat…” — Matt Drudge.

“Race Hate Spewing Clippers Owner Is Democratic Donor” — the Daily Caller.

Rush Limbaugh Not Allowed To Buy That Football Team

The greatest news for America last week was that unstable, obese radio junkie Rush Limbaugh had snuck his way into a group of investors fixing to purchase St. Louis’ NFL team, the Rams. What a straightforward way to piss off an entire major city! Upon hearing the news, black players in the league were like, “Ah, well, we look forward to never playing for that team or even visiting that city again in our lives.” The problem there is that black players tend to be the ones who are good at football. And so Rush’s investor “friends,” backed by a nervous NFL leadership, have dropped him from the bid. He is not expected to say gracious things about the NFL on his radio show, after this

Cliven Bundy, Donald Sterling and Affirmative Action

Two events over the past seven days underscore just how badly off-the-mark the Supreme Court’s ruling on race (PDF) was last week. In a 6-2 decision, the Court upheld Michigan voters’ amdendment to the state constitution to end the consideration of race as a factor in the state’s higher-education admissions.* Almost on cue, racially charged incidents quickly followed the decision and unfolded in a way that seemingly only Hollywood could engineer.

The spectacle of racist rancher Cliven Bundy and racist NBA owner Donald Sterling underscore why minority political and economic rights cannot rest solely upon majority rule. America is changing but it’s not changing fast enough to do away with key protections, and that’s what the Court seemingly did not get.

Before turning to the way in which the race-infused antics of rancher Cliven Bundy and Los Angeles Clippers chief Donald Sterling upended the Supreme Court’s rationale of a race-free America, it’s important to quickly review the action the Court took.

As a former player, I’m completely outraged. There is no room in the NBA – or anywhere else – for the kind of racism and hatred that Mr. Sterling allegedly expressed…. In a league where the majority of players are African-American, we cannot and must not tolerate discrimination at any level.”

NAACP Will No Longer Give Clippers Owner Lifetime Achievement Award

    CAITLIN MACNEAL – APRIL 27, 2014, 11:01 AM EDT

Interim president of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, Lorriane Miller, on Sunday said that the organization has decided to no longer honor Clippers owner Donald Sterling.

“He is not receiving a lifetime achievement award from the NAACP,” Miller said on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” according to Politico.

Sterling, who has come under fire for allegedly telling his girlfriend not to bring black people to his games, was scheduled to receive an award from the Los Angeles NAACP chapter at an event in May. Miller on Sunday denounced Sterling’s racist comments and called for the Clippers owner to make a statement about the audio recording of his remarks.

“If you’re silent about this, then you’re accepting this,” she said. ”People have got to say that this is not good and do something about it.”

    http://www.latimes.com/sports/sportsnow/la-sp-sn-donald-sterling-past-controversy-20140426,0,1205990.story#ixzz302VPD3V1

The racist comments purportedly made by Donald Sterling in the audio recording that surfaced Saturday via TMZ.com are the latest in a years-long string of racially charged incidents linked to the real estate mogul.

In 2009, Sterling agreed to a $2.765-million settlement in a case that alleged discrimination against African Americans, Latinos and others at apartment buildings he owned in Los Angeles County.

Sterling denied the charges by the Justice Department and in two separate lawsuits by former tenants. All three cases were covered by the settlement. The former tenants alleged property managers used racial slurs against them and didn’t follow through on the terms of their lease agreements. Sterling, though, didn’t admit any liability in the settlement.
Another federal lawsuit filed in 2003 by the Housing Rights Center and 19 tenants accused Sterling of once stating his preference not to rent to Latinos because “Hispanics smoke, drink and just hang around the building.” The lawsuit also accused him of saying “black tenants smell and attract vermin.”

The allegations included Sterling’s properties not renting to non-Koreans in Koreatown or African Americans in Beverly Hills.

According to the lawsuit, Sterling believed Korean-American tenants “will live in whatever conditions he gives them and still pay the rent without complaint.”

In addition to that case’s confidential settlement, Sterling paid almost $5 million in attorney’s fees to the plaintiffs. In a November 2005 document ordering the payment, U.S. District Judge Dale S. Fischer excoriated the legal tactics of Sterling’s defense team. The judge described them as “scorched earth” and “often unacceptable, and sometimes outrageous.”

Complete transcript of LeBron’s response on Donald Sterling. So powerful. So raw. (Read to very last sentence)

What are your thoughts on Donald Sterling’s comments?

“If the reports are true, it’s unacceptable. It’s unacceptable in our league. It doesn’t matter if you’re white, black, Hispanic, whatever, all across the races. It’s unacceptable and as a commissioner in our league, they have to make a stand, and they have to be very aggressive with it. I don’t know what it’s going to be, but you just can’t have that in our league. We’re the model citizens of all sports around the world and because we’re the most recognizable, I mean, it figures. You see us all the time, you see our logos, you see our players, and for an owner to come out and say the things that he said, it’s very disrespectful, it’s very appalling and one of my best friends and dear friends plays on his team in Chris Paul and I haven’t had an opportunity to talk to him but I can only imagine what’s going through his head.”

How difficult would it be to play with that hanging over…

“I don’t know. I kind of waivered back and forth whether I would actually sit out. If our owner would come out and say the things that he said, I would really have to sit down with my teammates, talk to my family because at the end of the day, our family, and our teammates are way more important than that. Basketball is huge, obviously the playoffs have been unbelievable, and I hate the fact that something like this has to come out when the playoffs have been unbelievable and the game of basketball continues to grow, but there is no room for Donald Sterling in our league. There is no room for him.”

    Does it make you angry?

“I’m not angry. Just disappointed more than anything. There is only 30 owners and 400-plus of us. For a player, I just think…I put my…I can only imagine if a player came out and said something of that stature what would happen to us as players. So, I believe in Adam [Silver], I believe in the NBA and they have to do something and do something very fast and quickly before this really gets out of hand. Like I said, there is no room for Donald Sterling in our league, man. There it is.”

        You are 100% right, Ametia.

Money and a championship are a minor issue when it comes to this major hour of taking a stand against racism. The Clipper players have the opportunity right now to show the world how to stand up against racism.

(I am just sorry that it always seems that Blacks experience major consequences when they stand against racism and Whites can be anti-racist without major consequences.)

Yep! Magic Johnson’s got the RIGHT ATTITUDE. BOYCOTT the CLIPPERS. Give Donald Sterling exactly what he’s asking his sidepiece to do. Erase any and all images of BLACK PEOPLE from this mofos sphere.

Yep, that’s his wish….give it to him…may his wish come true.

He said because she looks like she is White or Latino.. As long as she doesn’t bring up the fact she is part black she is ok with him.. He said he was hurt when she mentioned she was part black. Slave owners loved black women. Why are most Jeffersons and Washingtons black… White men like him like black women as long as they can keep it private. Go to DR the only chics those rich white dudes mess wit are the black chics, because they can have their thrills then come back to America and continue to be the racist pieces of trash they are without anybody knowing..

Well now, the investigation begins as to whether the voice on the TMZ audio is really DONALD STERLING’s voice.

Lemme guess…probably not, it’s one of those “THUGGISH” culture voices, according to David Stern.

Sterling sued by DOJ for housing discrimination
    Updated: August 7, 2006, 9:19 PM ET
    Associated Press

LOS ANGELES — The U.S. Department of Justice on Monday sued Los Angeles Clippers owner and real estate mogul Donald Sterling for housing discrimination, claiming he refused to rent apartments to blacks and families with children.

Federal prosecutors contend that Sterling, his wife, Rochelle, and their family trust refused to rent to many prospective tenants, treated them poorly and misrepresented the availability of apartments to them in the city’s Koreatown section.

The defendants also are accused of refusing to rent to black prospective tenants in Beverly Hills as well as families with children looking to rent apartments that the defendants owned or managed in Los Angeles County.

“Here in Los Angeles, where housing is already at a premium, it is imperative that no one be denied housing simply because of their skin color, ethnic background or because they have children,” said U.S. Attorney Debra Wong Yang.

A message left with attorney Michael Kennick, who has represented Sterling in previous lawsuits, was not immediately returned Monday.

    STERLING’S RACIMS SHOULD BE NEWS

    By Bomani Jones
    Special to Page 2

There was a time when Donald Sterling was a joke. His Los Angeles Clippers got all the laughs, but he got all the credit. Sterling was the absent mind behind the NBA’s longest-running vaudeville revue, his stinginess serving as the fuel behind the rust standard for ineptitude.

He was condemned with ridicule for coldly running a losing basketball team, a sin deemed unforgivable by most. Sterling was a skinflint, so despicable that you couldn’t help but wonder if the man who makes most of his money from real estate was only concerned with building a dream home in the most famous tropical enclave of them all: hell.
