THE MEANING OF THE LYRICS TO “SIT DOWN SERVANT”
A person arrives in heaven and is told to rest after his or her hard labor as a servant of the Lord. However, the person is so excited to be in heaven that he or she can’t sit down and rest. Instead, that newly arrived soul wants to walk around heaven, and see Biblical figures, while retaining an awareness that they are dangerous beings. [I think in this context “dangerous” means “powerful”. The person singing is being humble in recognizing a difference between himself or herself and the great Biblical persons mentioned in Biblical stories.]
The theme of being too excited to rest from your hard labor as a servant of God when you first get to heaven is also expressed in an alternative line to “I just got to heaven and I can’t sit down”. That line is “My soul is so happy that I can’t sit down”.

Future Doctor Who Was Homeschooled Triple Majors At Morehouse
Stafford, who is from Lithonia, Georgia, started his education playing school with his older sister when he was only two years old. Now 17, he is set to graduate college with a triple major and could complete medical school by the time he turns 22.
Stafford’s mother was not about to take that chance and home-schooled him. By the time he was 11, his mother found that he was too smart for her to teach, even though she was quite intelligent. She had him audit Algebra II at Morehouse College in Atlanta. The next year he aced pre-calculus and Morehouse College allowed him to officially enroll.
Though he will graduate this year with a triple major in pre-med, mathematics and computer science, he doesn’t see it as anything special. Even though he was named one of the “50 Smartest Teenagers” in the country.

The twin island state of Antigua and Barbuda is quickly becoming the new billionaires playground. From Dubai royalty to French aristocracy to Hollywood heavyweights to Chinese billionaires… these Caribbean islands are attracting high profile ultra high net worth new residents from all over the globe. So what’s going on?

There is a good reason for the sudden popularity of these islands. In October 2013, Antigua and Barbuda made a citizenship-by-investment route legal. Barbados, St. Kitts, and Nevis also have this program in place. Investors benefit from low taxes and receive a new passport. The country offers a zero percent tax rate on inheritance and capital gains. The highest regular income tax rate is 25%.
There are three ways to obtain an Antigua and Barbuda passport:
Invest $1.5 million into a business
Purchase a $400,000 government-sanctioned property or project
Make a $250,000 donation to a national development fund.
The third route is the most popular.
Successful applicants also gain visa-free travel to 130 countries including Canada, the UK, Singapore, and Hong Kong. Investments must be maintained for five years. Applicants must reside in the country for a minimum of 35 days each year.
Roughly half of the applicants for Antigua and Barbuda’s Citizenship by Investment program so far are Chinese; the bulk of the rest are Middle Eastern. A small number of Americans and Europeans have opted into the program as well. This isn’t surprising. Traveling with a Chinese or UAE passport can be problematic. You don’t just fly into London for a business meeting on a moment’s notice with a Chinese passport. There are hoops to jump through that take about three months to complete. Antigua and Barbuda eliminates those hoops for the billionaires that can afford it.

Tony Elumelu is one of Africa’s richest businessmen, an economist by training and visionary philanthropist. He is the Chairman of Heirs Holdings, the United Bank of Africa, and Transcorp and founder of the Toney Elumelu Foundation.
Last year, Elumelu helped organize a three day summit in Washington DC with 50 African heads of state and hundreds of business leaders from America and Africa. The goal was to strengthen the economic bond and opportunity for all involved.
Speaking to the Wall Street Journal, Elumelu spoke of the summit and said, “An opportunity to move beyond the usual conversations on aid and instead explore new opportunities to collaborate and co-invest in initiatives that generate value on both sides of the Atlantic.”

Why aren’t we seeing more women or minorities in the boardroom, i.e., the absolute pinnacle of power in the corporate world? Oh, well, the thing is: Most of the white men who sit on the boards of the biggest companies in the U.S. don’t think it matters, according to a new survey.
Only 35 percent of male directors said gender diversity was “very important” compared with 63 percent of females, according to the survey of 880 board members at U.S. companies released by PricewaterhouseCoopers on Tuesday.
While most women said diversity in the boardroom — defined as including women and minorities — leads to better board and company performance, most men disagreed. Only 31 percent of male board members, compared with 74 percent of females, said diversity improves company performance.

She learned her lesson early and was able to reverse bad habits

By the time Star Jones graduated from law school at the University of Houston Law Center in 1986, she had $75,000 in student loan debt and all her credit cards were maxed out.
“When I was in college, they were giving out all of those free credit card offers. It was like they were giving out free money,” Jones recalls. She was also struggling with the all-too-human inclination to “keep up.” “I was trying to keep up with the Joneses, and the Joneses didn’t have any money,” she adds.
Jones was a prosecutor with the Kings County District Attorney’s Office in Brooklyn, New York, until 1991, the same year she began her television career on Court TV. She also became a correspondent for NBC’s The Today Show and NBC Nightly News, and led the coverage of the O.J. Simpson murder as a legal analyst for Inside Edition. Then, in 1997, she became one of the original four co-hosts of daytime ABC talk show The View.
Now sitting atop the corporate ladder as president of the National Association of Professional Women (NAPW), which trades on the NASDAQ stock exchange under the symbol IPDN, Jones understands the financial implications of the opportunities that came her way.
“Financially, I got a second chance,” says Jones, who paid off all of her student loans and credit card debt in 1992. She didn’t just change her finances, she changed her financial behavior, avoiding the trap that many who come into money fall into—making the same mistakes with bigger sums.
“I had to get real with the fact that I am my own backup plan,” she continued. “Women across the board who are raising children or are sandwiched between childcare and eldercare become everybody else’s backup plan. You have to know how to prioritize yourself.”
For Jones that meant no looking back. No more credit cards—with the exception of a card she has to pay the full balance on every month—and no more debt.

Harlem Maintains Its Black Pride Despite Increase of White Residents

It’s been a while now since Harlem has been undergoing gentrification. Luxury condominiums and brownstones are the norm, and designer stores and boutiques seem to fit right in. Walking around, there are more than a few white faces that seem to have also found a place in what would have been a no-go zone just 20 years ago.
Even the businesses have had upgrades as seen in the bars and restaurants along Frederick Douglass Blvd. a.k.a “restaurant row.” Their clientele are a good sign of the renaissance of Harlem – black, young, hip, well-educated, and affluent.
As the gentrification slowly takes over, there is another notable shakeup taking place – if the numbers recorded between 2000 and 2010 are anything to go by, the number of Black residents has gone down while the number of white residents has increased five-fold.
But when it actually comes to the business and commercial development, it gets a little bit more complicated as it is the Black residents who are embracing and thankful for the new amenities and opportunities while they hold on to the Black pride that is being cultivated and, in a sense, promoted in the new Harlem.
Kwame Binea, 32, arrived in New York eight years ago and knew Harlem was the place he wanted to be. “In Harlem, I could finally breathe,” the part-time barman and full-time artist and musician said. The heritage, culture and art scene was a place he could fit in with ease. And then, of course, there was the matter of the affordable rent.
Born in Ghana, Binea came to the US via London and found a place where he could be accepted as one with the community whose members have helped him with everything — from his music videos to serving as a social safety net he can fall back on.

Become the ‘Silicon Valley’ of New York?

When you think of technology centers you probably think about Silicon Valley in California. If you are from the east, specifically, New York, you may think about DUMBO. The area of Brooklyn known as Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass (DUMBO) has the highest concentration of tech firms of any New York neighborhoods. In fact, 25 percent of New York City-based tech firms are located in DUMBO with over 500 tech and creative firms in just a 10-block radius. Now, another New York neighborhood wants to get in on the tech game. In October, the 2015 Silicon Harlem Tech Conference hopes to inspire current technology firms and those interested in tech entrepreneurship, innovation, and developing new opportunities.
According to Black Enterprise, “Silicon Harlem aspires to transfer Harlem into an innovation and technology hub that will thrive and inspire the global digital economy.” The hope is that another ‘renaissance movement’ can take place in Harlem, this time in the tech sector. The local politicians and entrepreneurs behind Silicon Harlem believe that they can create the relationships, knowledge and resources for industries to be successful in the area.
By bringing technology and engineering interests into the community, economic development is accelerated and education can also be positively impacted in the short-term. In the long-term, the shift toward technology has the potential to impact the area’s high unemployment rates and poverty. The hope is that the tech industry can do for Harlem what it has done for San Jose and Mountain View in California.

The owners of Linda Construction Inc. have filed a $24 million lawsuit alleging that the city of Chicago, Allied Waste and a teamsters union conspired to prevent them from bidding on garbage contracts.

An African-American garbage-hauling company has filed a $24 million lawsuit against the city of Chicago, a waste-removal company and a teamsters union, claiming that the trio conspired to keep the minority-owned business from competing for Chicago garbage contracts.
According to the Cook County Record, Linda and Jesse McGee, owners of Linda Construction Inc., claim that Allied Waste Transportation Inc., Teamsters Local 731 and several individuals named in the lawsuit conspired to keep LCI from competing for existing contracts after using the company to fulfill a minority requirement to win bids reserved for minority businesses.
The lawsuit also charges “discrimination, conspiracy, violation of equal protection, breach of contract and interference with a contract against the various defendants,” the County Record reports.

Indictment of Barbara Byrd Bennett leaves most of her cronies, co-conspirators and (Board member) enablers off the hook…
The announcement of the indictment of former Chicago Public Schools “Chief Executive Officer” Barbara Byrd Bennett on October 8, 2015, came as no surprise to most people who had been following the scandal since the seven members of the Chicago Board of Education voted at the Board’s June 2013 meeting to approve the $20.5 million, no-bid SUPES contract unanimously and without debate.
Officially the news was simple: Barbara Byrd Bennett, who served as CEO of Chicago Public Schools following her October 2012 appointment by Mayor Rahm Emanuel to replace Jean-Claude Brizard (Rahm’s first CEO), pleaded guilty in a scheme to profit from a no-bid contract on October 8, 2015. News reports also said that Byrd-Bennett, will plead guilty to charges in an indictment released Thursday (October 8, 2015). The indictment states that she steered more than $23 million in no-bid contracts from CPS to her former employer, federal officials said.
U.S. Attorney Zachary Fardon made the announcement at a news conference. Fardon declined to discuss the details of any plea agreement, including possible prison time. He said that Byrd-Bennett and others “entered into a scheme to secretly profit from schools.” Byrd-Bennett — Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s handpicked choice — becomes CPS’ first chief executive officer to face criminal charges in connection with her job. Federal authorities have been investigating the most controversial of those contracts — a $20.5 million no-bid CPS deal for principal training, the largest in recent memory — for more than a year.
Receiving that contract in 2013 to train principals was the “SUPES Academy.” That group owned by former Niles West High School dean Gary Solomon and his former student Thomas Vranas. The SUPES contract generated controversy shortly after it was approved because SUPES was not known for training principals while other groups, including the Chicago Principals and Administrators Association (CPAA), had done the job. The deal drew increasing criticism after the “training” began and became obvious even to principals afraid to speak out that the “training” ranged from insipid to ridiculous. Eventually, an article in Catalyst magazine exposed the fact that the contract had been no-bid and reported on the principals’ challenges. Solomon, 47, of Wilmette, and Vranas, 34, of Glenview, also were charged in the federal indictment. Also charted were two corporations: SUPES and another company owned by Solomon and Vranas, Synesi Associates LLC.

“If there’s a sense that you’re the person that they need to pit someone against, that suggests you have a strong base of underlying support,” Murray said.
“But Donald Trump and Ben Carson aren’t ‘anyone but Bush’ candidates. They’re tapping into an entirely different mindset in which Bush is irrelevant. In 2012, it was always Romney and someone who is not Romney. We’re not having that conversation about Jeb, and that speaks volumes.”
And Romney always had an ace-in-the-hole.
“Romney had New Hampshire in his back pocket the whole time,” Robinson said.
Romney, from neighboring Massachusetts, held a double-digit lead in New Hampshire throughout. He was guaranteed at least one victory in a carve-out state.
Bush has no such guarantees. He is in sixth place in Iowa and fourth place in New Hampshire, which many believe is a must-win state for him. Even if he could wait it out to Florida’s primary on March 15, he’s behind in the polls Trump and Carson in his home state.

Townhall’s Guy Benson and Daily Beast’s Betsy Woodruff were riding the early morning Acela Express from New York to D.C., when they noticed a longtime Hillary Clinton ally Lanny Davis carrying on a loud conversation about the 2016 election.Each wrote separate pieces detailing what Davis unwittingly revealed on the long train ride.
To begin with, Davis said that Bernie Sanders was “sanctimonious,” “a flip-flopper,” and “a Socialist” who can’t win the general election. “There’s no way he can be nominated — ever,” he reportedly told his political associates.
Davis was just as confident that Clinton could beat “buffoon” Joe Biden. He noted that Biden was still only in third, despite huge name recognition and Clinton’s poll numbers being “the bottom of the bottom.” Davis predicted that Biden’s numbers would drop immediately once he announced his candidacy.
Davis even took the time to discuss Clinton’s debate strategy. He said Clinton played to attack the NRA during the debate, and parlay those attacks into an attack on Sanders. The group of Clintonistas debated whether or not Clinton should “get emotional” during the debate, arguing that it would play well with women.
