Thursday Open Thread | It Is NOT the Mueller Report. It Is Barr REDACTED GarbagešŸ˜ šŸ˜

Ā This is not the Mueller Report. Letā€™s make this clear.

This is the Barr Redacted Report. It would be amusing, if the stakes werenā€™t so high. This man doesnā€™t seem to grasp that his credibility level is absolutely zero. It was zero when we found out about the 19 page cover letter that he did to get the job of Attorney General ā€“ and then, it went downhill from there.

But, Iā€™m glad that people are bringing all sorts of receipts. Itā€™s not like Barr was anything other than a hack before.

MSNBC (@MSNBC) Tweeted:
In 1989, AG Barr refused to release a DOJ legal opinion, choosing to release a summary report instead. It was later revealed that Barr mischaracterized parts of the opinion in that summary. https://t.co/exS3OfKG8o https://twitter.com/MSNBC/status/1118000075748380673?s=17

Barrā€™s Playbook: He Misled Congress When Omitting Parts of Justice Department Memo in 1989

On Friday the thirteenth October 1989, by happenstance the same day as the ā€œBlack Fridayā€ market crash, news leaked of a legal memo authored by William Barr. He was then serving as head of the Justice Departmentā€™s Office of Legal Counsel (OLC). It is highly uncommon for any OLC memo to make headlines. This one did because it was issued in ā€œunusual secrecyā€ and concluded that the FBI could forcibly abduct people in other countries without the consent of the foreign state. The headline also noted the implication of the legal opinion at that moment in time. It appeared to pave the way for abducting Panamaā€™s leader, Gen. Manuel Noriega.

Members of Congress asked to see the full legal opinion. Barr refused, but said he would provide an account that ā€œsummarizes the principal conclusions.ā€ Sound familiar? In March 2019, when Attorney General Barr was handed Robert Muellerā€™s final report, he wrote that he would ā€œsummarize the principal conclusionsā€ of the special counselā€™s report for the public.
When Barr withheld the full OLC opinion in 1989 and said to trust his summary of the principal conclusions, Yale law school professor Harold Koh wrote that Barrā€™s position was ā€œparticularly egregious.ā€ Congress also had no appetite for Barrā€™s stance, and eventually issued a subpoena to successfully wrench the full OLC opinion out of the Department.

So, letā€™s be clear. Heā€™s done this bullshyt before. He cannot be trusted. So, MSM, donā€™t call this piece of crap the Mueller Report. Itā€™s not the Mueller Report. Itā€™s Barrā€™s piece of garbage.

I am also gratified at folks bringing ALL the receipts that they can find on Barr. I mean, Maddow literally spent the entire first 30 MINUTES of her program outlining how Barr is a liar and has done this before. This man is deluded that he has some credibility. Naw, Son…you ain’t got any. Not one shred. Not one solitary ounce.

And, the media has to be called on the carpet if they try and shill this swill as the Mueller Report. This is the BARR GARBAGE REPORT.

WE WANT THE MUELLER REPORT.
UNREDACTED.
COMPLETE.
WITH GRAND JURY TESTIMONY.

Ā

Ā

Here is Rachel Maddow explaining how Barr has done this before:

I have absolutely no problem with this…Do it, Mr. Chairman.šŸ‘šŸ‘

If Barr lied in his March 24 memo @SpeakerPelosi @RepJerryNadler should tee him up for impeachment hearings for criminal obstruction of Congressl under 18 USC 1505 and obstructing the Intel committee by a false claim of Rule 6(e) that exempts Intel under 6(e)(3)(D).

Just for you to remember as they try to sell this swill:

Judd Legum (@JuddLegum) Tweeted:
Barr is releasing a version of the Mueller report tomorrow. Remember:
1. Barr wonā€™t say whether heā€™s been talking w/White House
2. Barr has invented a new category of redaction with no basis in law
3. Barr has consistently shown a willingness to do Trumpā€™s political bidding https://twitter.com/JuddLegum/status/1118526505800404999?s=17

Eight judges have dropped out Greg Gunn murder case

The case of a white police officer charged with murder in the shooting death of an unarmed black man in Alabama three years ago is now on its ninth judge.

Eight judges have dropped out as the case makes its way to trial, with the eighth recusing himself earlier this week, just a few days after being appointed.

A Montgomery police officer, Aaron Smith, is to face a jury over the killing of Greg Gunn, who fled a random stop-and-frisk and was chased, shocked, beaten and then shot five times in 2016, by Smith while he was on duty.

Smith has argued that he acted in self-defense. Sam Welch became the eighth judge assigned to the case last Friday and then recused himself this week.

The state supreme court has now ranged further afield from Montgomery and tapped the retired Dale county circuit judge Philip Ben McLauchlin, in a ninth attempt to pick a judge to hear the case, the Montgomery Advertiser reported. Welch is a former presiding judge of the state court of criminal appeals who said he had denied motions asking for another judgeā€™s recusal.

@Leto: On Monday, I saw Julian Castro in the Machinists Union Hall here is Des Moines. I was impressed. There was one camera on the tripod covering him. I liked his clarity, his directness, and his passion.

On Wednesday (yesterday), I saw Mayor Pete in the same union hall, at 11:30 in the morning. I went early and the hall was already packed out. He came out followed by a big media entourage. There were at least seven tripods covering him and it was live on CSpan. I talked to a freelancer covering him (video and still) for WaPost. I found his delivery much less inspiring, though he said all the right generalities. That might just be because I was at the back, and my view was blocked by the cameras but the voice was a bit too calm and steady. Heā€™s got a cute mother and his husband is nice (he I met and shook hands with at the back). I liked that I didnā€™t know his name thenā€¦.he was just ā€œthe husband.ā€

What troubles me is the way the press coverage elevates one and obscures the other. If Castro were being followed by the media as much, would he rise in the polls. I like Castroā€™s immigration policy and want him on the debate stage, if only to give voice to that policy. I want it in the Democratic Platform. I urge all of you to toss even $5 to Castro so that he will get enough different donors to qualify.

What’s been wild to me about 45’s entire tenure is how much faith that white people have put into their traditions, norms, and institutions.

Black folks, at best may give 15 minutes to trusting in these traditionns, norms and institutions before we start looking at facts on the ground…white people take years. It’s crazy.

I’ve been watching these former prosecutors turned pundits slowly lose their faith. One said out loud, ‘it’s like believing in Santa when you know he truly doesn’t exist but you want to believe anyway.” The obvious weakness and corruption of the DOJ is killing them.

Sorry Barr, this isnā€™t 1988, when the Republicans could cow everyone into not asking questions because Barr was a somebody. After this buildup, not in hell likely. Also the four weeks of resistance to even issuing the report means that Congress is even more likely to take a hard approach in both questioning and data collection.

The attorney general hides information from the public to protect the Trump Administration. Even when heā€™s asked directly about conduct he is currently engaging in (helping the White House to prepare a ā€œrebuttalā€) he refuses to answer. He doesnā€™t answer because he knows the conduct is wrong, and he wants to hide it as long as he can.
