Open Thread | To All Those Who Talk About ‘Not Voting in 2024’

For those of you who are Black and are threatening not to vote in 2024.

Oh well.
Nobody is going to beg you.
I don’t have the time. Anyone serious about 2024 doesn’t have the time.

I have never been in a position where I have the luxury of throwing away my vote.
My great-grandfather was a slave. He was property until the Civil War and the 13th, 14th and 15th Amendments happened. Then, he became a citizen of this country. He planted his flag in the Southern United States, and that’s where my family was until the Great Migration.

My family lived under the boot of American Apartheid- Jim Crow, for almost 100 years.

I know the stories of my own family and their travails in trying to vote during the Jim Crown era.

Because I know my history, I cannot ever, with any kind of conscience, express the arrogance of throwing my vote away. Too many nameless, faceless people fought for the right to vote. They were denied for decades, but, it doesn’t mean that they didn’t fight for that right. The fundamental disrespect of those regular folks, without any headlines, that is shown when you say that you won’t vote —-you are simply lost, and without any semblance of knowledge of your people’s history.

You live in a world of delusion.

Third party? Where? Here, in America?
If you want to live in a multi-party country, you need to move to one.
Because, we are a two party country.

For better or worse.

Two sides of the same coin?
Really?

On the one side, you have a party, that is doing what it can to progress more down the path that we have been on since Brown V Board.

And, then, there are the Republicans.

You care about Civil Rights?
Gun Control?
Body autonomy?
A more equitable financial foundation?
Expanding healthcare options?
Student Loan Forgiveness?
Protecting Social Security?
Protecting Medicare?
Protecting Medicaid?
Protecting Public Education?
Protecting Disabled Children in getting an Education?
Eliminating Child Poverty?
Expanding child care?
Free community college?
More equitable representation by removing gerrymandering?
Criminal Justice reform?
Reform in Policing?
Voting Rights protections?
Protecting the rights of the LGBTQIA+ community?
Protecting an accurate representation of history?
Protecting the right for children to read books and take classes that represent all?
Decreasing Maternal Mortality?

Then you can’t remotely be thinking about voting Republican.

When everything you say that you care about, I can point to REPUBLICAN OBSTRUCTIONISM…

But, you only seem to have smoke for Democrats and refuse to acknowledge the Republican’s part in the policy objective happening, and refuse to call out the Republicans…

Why should I take you seriously?

When, you’ve decided to become a one-issue voter, and now, that’s Palestine, when you didn’t even know how to spell Palestine before October 7th….

Why should I take you seriously?

When you threaten to not vote for Joe Biden….

But, deny that the first thing Donald Trump did when in office was the Muslim Ban?

When you threaten to not vote for Joe Biden….

But, deny that there were basically NO refugees allowed into the United States during Trump’s Term…

When you threaten to not vote for Joe Biden…

But, ignore that it was Trump who moved the American Embassy to Jerusalem….

When you threaten to not vote for Joe Biden…

But, every Republican candidate on stage at last week’s debate told you that they would tell Israel to go forth and do whatever they want with no holdbacks from THEIR White House and State Department…

That any student found protesting Israel who was here on a student visa would have that visa revoked and their azzes would be sent home…

This is what they all said LAST WEEK…..

And, yet, the only smoke you have is for President Biden?

When you threaten to not vote for Joe Biden….

But, like, refuse to even acknowledge what the Republicans are writing down, in explicit language about what they are going to do —Project 2025

I have deja vu all over again.

Back to 2016, when you and your ilk, had the same attitude.
You couldn’t be scared into voting for Hillary by using The Supreme Court.
You had to vote your conscience.
Because, you could make it through of term of Donald Trump.

How’d that work out for you?
Now, you are the same ones yelling at Joe Biden to do something radical to fix the ‘Court Problem’.

You not voting or voting third party in 2016, got us Trump.
And, not only that right-wing majority on The Supreme Court, which is bad enough.

But, all those right-wing judges that he was able to push through, because McConnell had blocked Obama from getting not only Merrick Garland from the Supreme Court, but, all those lower court vacancies that he blocked FOR YEARS.

Filled with right-wing lunatics so that they now go judge shopping for whatever horrible policies they want to funnel up to the right-wing Supreme Court.

And, THAT is why, I wasn’t one of the ones who was clamoring for the resignation of the late Dianne Feinstein. The GOP had made clear that if she resigned – they were not going to allow the Democrats to replace her spot on the Senate Judiciary Committee, and thus halting one of President Biden’s most glaring achievements:

Joe Biden Has Confirmed 150 Federal Judges. 100 Of Them Are Women.
The president has confirmed nearly double the number of female judges that Donald Trump did during his entire time in the White House.

President Joe Biden hit a milestone on Tuesday that he’ll certainly be touting on the campaign trail: He’s put 150 people into lifetime federal judgeships – and of those, 100 are women and 98 are people of color.

It’s a solid number of Article III judges to be confirmed by this point in a presidency — these judges get lifetime appointments and serve on district courts, appeals courts and the Supreme Court. But Biden is no longer breaking records with his pace of confirmations. By this time in his predecessors’ presidencies, Donald Trump had confirmed 159 Article III judges, Barack Obama was at 115, George W. Bush was at 167 and Bill Clinton was at 164.

…………….

Carl Tobias, a University of Richmond law professor and expert on federal judicial nominations, noted that Biden has four appeals court nominees awaiting Senate confirmation votes, one of which will come next week and the others soon after. That’s in addition to the Senate voting on more district court nominees this week.

Biden is “likely to equal or surpass Trump by his term’s end,” Tobias speculated. “Of course, if the GOP shuts down the government, that would stall Biden’s confirmation work.”

These judges will be Biden’s legacy. Just like the horrible bunch Trump appointed will be his. ….and, yours for non-vote/throwing your vote away in 2016.

Think on this.
You don’t think that if, Trump or some other Republican wins in 2024, that the first thing that’s going to happen is the resignations of Alito and Unca Clarence, so that a REPUBLICAN can nominate their right-wing replacements?

But, you can’t be bothered. You can’t be scared.
Because, it’s all about you. It’s all about how you feel, and not how your vote could help shape things detrimentally for your fellow citizens.

One final thing..
If you vote didn’t matter…
Then why does the GOP spend so much time trying to block people from voting.
You voting 3rd Party or not voting..
Helps Republicans.
And, riddle me this?
Why are you so interested in Democrats not voting?
Why do I never hear your ilk say that Republicans shouldn’t vote?

Just wondering.

so…..both parties are still the same?
He is not hiding what he intends to do. And, not one other Republican candidate has spoken up to say that this is outrageous…so, they condone what he is going to do…and, would do it themselves….
but…..both parties are the same…
Uh huh
Uh huh

NFL coaches have offset, meaning future football income – coaching, media – offsets against what’s owed. Not here.

This is where I have a problem. What is Donald trump offering black men? Black Farmers got 0.1% of funding from the federal government under Trump. Black business continued to get denied for PPP loans and Biden had to rewrite the regulations for sole proprietor. https://t.co/g4KF8FxaNd

Well here you go. This article confirms what we’ve known all along: there is an orchestrated effort by Republicans to get third parties like No Labels and independent candidates to run for President in order to dilute the votes of Joe Biden and put Trump back in the White House.…
